Today, we're two months from the election.
I'm seeing a lot of concern here about how the campaign is going, but I think most of that concern is misplaced.
The presidential campaigns are just now shifting into gear, really. Yesterday's forum thing was really the first joint event of the season. I think we make a mistake by looking too closely at the minutiae of the thing. In reality, not that many people watched it, while more will be seeing analysis of it. Bottom line is that it's over and will be remembered more from the commentary than the actual event.
Bottom line is that Hillary did a solid, presidential job of responding in her half hour. Trump, on the other hand, lied and blustered his way through the forum. The commentary is reflecting that.
Give it some time. Trump will not change his approach and neither will Clinton. She'll be solid, thoughtful and accurate. Trump will bluster, lie and say stupid things. Most people won't watch anything but commentary, really.
I believe the polls will shortly begin to reflect Clinton's competency and poise with higher numbers, while Trump's numbers will begin to drop. Over the next two months, those changes will be magnified.
Take a broad view of the campaigns and it's looking good for Hillary, I believe. I think it will look even better as time passes. In the meantime, check with your local Democratic organization and see if there's something you can do to help, even if it's only a little. From the top to the bottom of the ticket, wherever you are, you can help shift the vote by donating funds or time.
GOTV for Democrats!
