They really are crazy !
In response to the 2008 election when more than half the voters chose Barack Obama & Joe Biden over John McCain & Sarah Plain, a group of republicans met to form a strategy that would undermine the newly elected president, they agreed and pledged a unified and unyielding resistance to block nearly every proposal sent to congress for approval. Mitch McConnell said even more important than jobs and the economy was making president Obama a "one term president", HE FAILED ! Then the so-called "tea-party showed up on the scene with a violent reaction, people openly carrying weapons at rallies with signs warning, "next time it'll be loaded", they called the president Communist-Socialist-Fascist-Marxist, a Kenyan with post-colonial, anti-white hatred who hates America, doesn't understand America, wants America to fail, etc., ... this was as close as they could come to carrying out actual physical violence on Mr. Obama, and the closest publicly they could get to calling him a Nigger. The tea-party folks were a helluva lot more motivated in 2010 when Obama voters went to sleep believing their job was done, when "yes we can" turned into "yes HE can". Tea-party favored representatives took control of the congress and swept governor races, they were chosen to STOP Obama and his Socialism-Communism-Fascism, what they got was what they voted for. Then it slowly started seeping in that things were still a mess after all the noise, the people they voted in didn't move the needle, THEY FAILED ! This election was only the second time in history a democratic president won the popular vote by over 50%, the first was FDR, it's known as a MANDATE, the other side presented their case and their case was rejected overwhelmingly, but that's not stopping the fringe element ( their main talkers ), the response this time seems eerily the same as it was after Mr. Obama won in 2008, it's as though they believe it works even when the results clearly shows THEY FAILED ! Politics can be a lot like cults, cult followers often insulate themselves from anything they think might penetrate the world view of the cult, sometimes they die over it. What can be done when it seems impossible to get through to folks that REAL compromise is what we should be focused on now ?
