In retrospect, why on earth would anyone want to donate to the Trump Foundation?

It's not like it was the Trump Foundation for Breast Cancer, or Trump Foundation for the Homeless, or Trump Foundation for (Insert Cause Here). It was just the Trump Foundation.

At its best and most ideal, it was donating to the Trump Foundation who in turn would supposedly donate to their own charities of choice. Why donate to Donald Trump so that Donald Trump could pat himself on the back for donating other people's money?

And in actuality, it was donating to Donald Trump so that he could pay off Pam Bondi in advance of any Trump University investigation, or so he could buy a Tim Tebow football helmet, or so he could buy a 6 foot tall self-portrait that no one else wanted to buy at a charity auction.

It was a slush fund, pure and simple. George Costanza's Human Fund was more legitimate than that. How did people fall for it? Then again, people fell for Trump University and many of Trump's other scams, so it's not like it's not without precedent.
