Related: About this forumGary Jonston getting double digits in swing states! Seems to be harming Hillary most.
MSNBC showing the maps now. It's mostly in the 18 to 24 age group. I guess all I can hope that they are true to form and just don't vote!

(1,493 posts)Were they Sanders supporters? Does Bernie need to do a GOTV for Hillary in the swing states?

(44,124 posts)Given that most everything Johnson espouses is an anathema to Senator Sanders, I hope Bernie can reach these voters.

(373 posts)The Johnson supporters my age that I know or have interacted with aren't Libertarian. They're former Bernie supporters who refuse to vote for Hillary and like Johnson because he wants to legalize marijuana.
The Hillary well has been poisoned, as far as they're concerned. I'm not sure any could be convinced to vote for her, even by Bernie.

(33 posts)By voting third party. Many of them actually believed the hacked emails were real.
Get a clue, they were obviously hacked by the Russians and altered to divide the party. Putin is desperately trying to help Trump.
Bernie wasn't cheated, despite what Putin would have them believe. We shouldn't let Putin and his bright orange puppet divide us. Bernie actually lost, now it's time to come together and win this.

(9 posts)Do you all remember John Andersen's Presidential Candidacy as an Independent? He siphoned off enough votes from Jimmy Carter resulting in the Presidential victory for Reagan - Bush. Anderson in reality was a corporatist from Michigan FUNDED by the GOP..
enough foolish college kids voted for him and other political purists as to make life h*ll on wheels for themselves and all working people in this country for a decade plus a deficit 3x what it was Reagan took office.
Who is behind Mr.Gary Johnson, I wonder: the pot cartels? Roger Stone and company? Baby Trump refused to debate unless the network included Gary Johnson no matter the rules governing Presidential "debates".

(341 posts)The candidate in almost all of her surrogate only ever appear to be chastising trunk and never giving you a reason why Hillary is a better option. All I ever hear from her surrogate is all of truck negative. Guess what, everyone knows about his negatives even if the media is not covering them.
People don't like trump. But they also haven't been given a good enough reason to believe that Hillary is a better option.
Many voters are willing to throw their vote away to prove a point to themselves

(45,806 posts)Almost all the time when she mentions The Con plan for something, she counters it by stating what HER PLAN IS. All of her speeches that I've hers, she explains what she plans to do in different situations...with specificity. NEVER have I hears her sday silly things like "I have a plan but I can't tell you what it is." Or the completely insane statements like "Why can't we use nuclear bombs is we have them?" or "What would I do with ISIS? I'd bomb the shit out of them!"

We're talking about people who buy into every misleading Meme about Hillary and then pass it on to their headline only reading friends.
My Millennial hipster son flipped to Hillary and his friends now treat him like he's a traitor on Facebook and recently at a couple festivals he had to work. Mad Sanders supporters walk right up to him and say something snarky, rude, nasty. What funny is they pride themselves on tolerance, love, art.
He posted a video Ezra Klein did about Hillary's life and accomplishments. I was going to post a link for you, but it looks like he took it down because he get's so much grief for daring to support her.

(14,689 posts)Unless you think Johnson is going to win a state, does it really matter if they stay home or vote for Johnson? It's not as if a candidate needs a majority to win the state's EV.
I think it's better to convince people to support the Democratic candidate, rather than just hoping they don't vote.

It's sad really, they think they're being anti-establishment, but they're simply buying into establishment smears about Hillary, the Clintons and Obama. This is the GOP's hit-machine paying dividends, unfortunately, and our side's failure to effectively counter it.
Millenials are a pampered and privileged generation that was raised on reality tv, got participation trophies just for showing up, helicopter parents, etc - they have no clue how bad it could really be under someone like Trump.
Despite "sky is falling" rhetoric from people like Johnson, Stein, Sanders and Trump - life in America (and the 1st world in general) is still relatively fucking great compared to how most humans on this planet have it.

(14,689 posts)By a margin of 60-36 %. But now we're the problem. If the election was decided only by old people, Romney would probably have won.

(3,635 posts)Alot of the reason millenials have turned against the Dem establishment (with Hillary being seen as the face of it) is because they've bought into the idea that Obama didn't deliver, when the reality is it was the Tea Party and GOP obstructionism that has prevented progress.
Millenials also buy many/most of the lies and false narratives against Hillary, which have been peddled by the right for 24 years now. They grew up with these lies, which to them is a reality they don't question.

(3,635 posts)sad but true, it really is 'horseshoe theory', i.e. when the far left and far right converge.
but its the boomers we need to die off or have a serious wake up. They have been carrying the republicans for a long time now. If anyone swallowed the fox news crap it's the boomers.
Nothing wrong with being a Johnson supporter as a young kid. At least you are involved in the process if you know who he is.
I don't disagree with millennials being pampered or that life in America is amazing or that America is amazing.
Sure it has warts but it is a huge expanse of land where you can travel pretty freely, relatively safely, and associate with whoever you choose to. We are a glorious melting pot and I love that we become more diverse every day. I don't say that to disparage other countries or single out america as the greatest country. There are a ton of great countries on this rock.
America certainly does not suck.

(28,078 posts)is supporting him and I would have pegged her for a Trump supporter. She is 52 so maybe he's pulling in older Republican types and younger ones who think they're "sticking it to the system" by supporting him.
I mostly ignore her Facebook posts about him but she did post a hilarious defense of his not knowing what Aleppo is. "Most people don't know where it is." was the last line of her rant (which leads me to believe she didn't know either). That time I couldn't resist and I replied "Most people aren't running for president." -- which resulted in "likes" from most the other cousins on the FB.

(50,986 posts)off-putting. I don't get a complex mosaic from him, only a squinted peek through a small opening. It's just nowhere near enough.
John F. Kennedy reached for the damn moon. Gary Johnson can't even find Aleppo.
Personally I don't see how it's possible for an actual voter to switch their vote from Clinton to the libertarian guy. That kind of cluelessness is not going to be motivated enough to plow through a ten-page ballot on Nov. 8.

(50,986 posts)Gary Johnson, but I don't hear the vision or the vigor, or even much of a plan from him and Bill Weld.
If somebody's going to apply for that Oval Office job in 2016, it doesn't seem too much to ask that he or she know where Aleppo is.

(15,512 posts)and she is, somewhere around 2%, which is about par for the course. But Johnson is getting the people who would probably have voted for Dubya or Reagan but can't stomach Trump. Hillary was never going to get those votes, whether they supported Sanders or not. So Johnson is basically helping Clinton by splitting the Trump vote and doing an impressive job

(30,481 posts)Some are no different than young libertarian voters of the past. Pot heads. That is their one and only issue. Others simply have to feel like they are bucking the system. It is very personal. They have zero sense of community. Complete privilege. Others are dumb asses, which is also covered in the first two points. Then there are the dumbasses who truly believe in the libertarian philosophy. They aren't smart enough to work all the way through it. Some think they have to go for the political outsider and know so little about Johnson that they haven't figured out he is a politician to the core.
One fact we do know, they don't and won't show up to vote.
