Mitt has a new speech writer: "The Genius of America is Freedom".

Last edited Wed Mar 21, 2012, 11:27 AM - Edit history (13)

He sure ain't a genius, but Mitt gave his best speech for some time
at the Illinois victory rally. There WAS some new vision bling, a new pitch.
and not a fact or policy in the way: Nothing, nothing to dampen the mood.

He tripped over some of the writing, notably '... humble not humbled'.
'Humble' doesn't come out easily, not to put too fine a point on it.

He didn't mention Rick. I can't even remember the word 'Democrats.,
This was a first draft of the (R)money General Election plan.
PBS called it the 'We've had enough' speech. That is not accurate.
This was the vision thing. This play will be remembered as:
The Genius of America is Freedom speech.

There was little vitriol, few over the top lies. This was 'good neighbor' Mitt.
Obama won't be a ;Saul Alinsky; radical nor 'palllin' around with communists'
this time, oh no, Barack is "Professor Obama" and that's the theme.

Obama, the 'Law Professor' believes in more laws and regulations.
Mitt, the entrepreneur, knows the freedom that business needs to thrive.

Fragile startups are being crushed by laws and regulations (particularly Dodd/Frank).
The Wright Brothers would have been shut down for stirring up too much dust,
and so on... (Mitt should be turned off for stirring up Bull Dust)

There was little invective: This was Mittspeak to independent voters,
drawing on some of Obama's techniques and speeches,
including the DNC acceptance speech. Off he went:-

RW Idealism vs. failed policies, and a failed Presidency.
The President 'doesn't understand', 'he is out of touch'
He even filched a signature moment, "Enough!"
No 'if you will work with me' .Work? Nup, just ''Join us'!
We ain't paying jack.

Expect to hear 'The President is a good man' later on.
(we heard it before the Primaries got tight)

Romney dialed down the arrogance - He can't do passion but he can plead,
pleading to the precipice of a whine. There was a tone, at times,
I have heard from the President when he says 'but can't you see ...'?

IMHO Obama could add more authority to those moments, perhaps
something more fatherly. I can't imagine him saying 'but can't you see'
like that to his daughters, nor to kids at risk.

Again, IMHO, there's a premonition of failure in that particular phrasing.
'But can't you see ...' Answer - No. Why even ask a yes/no question?

Whatever, 'Idealist' Romney was pleading:-
Come together for a higher purpose ...

And that purpose is making money ... letting his Wall Street buddies run riot
in unregulated killing fields, secure in the knowledge that their 1% guy
is sitting in the Oval Office with a hot line to J.P. Morgan (just like the good ol' days).
Surely Goldman Sachs can promise this Muttpet, (sealing the deal with reams of data),
"there will not be any big crashes on your watch". Of course they can, and they will.

It's just about as close as Romney can get to sincerity (outside the LDS Church).
He believes some of it.

Well, that's a wrap for this week's Mittspeak. Down the memory hole for the time being.
Next month The 'Genius of America' may well be immigration and diversity.

The video is below, if you can stomach it.

Just as you say, Pres Obama..merely an academic.. vs Mitt, the strong man of Business.

Subtle trashing of Pres Obama... Enthusiastic responses from his audience...

Sure seemed like a new speechwriter...

The speechwriter has taken a lot of curs and techniques from Obama's 2008 run. If there anyone who knows the anatomy and weakness of that model it's the people who conceived it.

Obama 2012 has moved on. The man speaks with more passion, more righteous indignation. In many ways 2008 was predicated on restraint, the 'angry black man' and all that. This time round he can let loose some Black Church Preaching if he chooses, translated for a wider audience. Barack knows it all by heart, and doesn't even have to try to make it real.

I would never have deduced that on my own... But understand what you are saying. ..

My fear is that the wooden Romney via the speech, delivered enough volts of electricity to charge up the base..

I've noticed that once Mitt gets out of his comfort zone he falters, stonewalls or retreats into arrogance.

There is one issue coming up that is very close to Obama's heart, and as welcome to Romney as a hole in the heart: The rights of women to pursue their dreams. He can't talk about that with conviction. Any conviction. He can't reference his family without critics pointing out the Romney said his mother ran for the Senate on a Pro Choice platform three years before Roe v Wade. He called that courageous. It may have been fabricated, but it still leaves him naked.

There's much more. Suffice to say, a primary victory is no defense.

The will be more lightning, a whole lot of it, coming right his way.

BTW, if you listened to that speech, he went out of his way to eulogize entrepreneurs, like himself. Did he ever say a thing about the middle class?

Obama was so well received because it was real. He didn't have to pretend. Whereas for Mittens, this is just a political strategy.

makes him like the current, much more likeable incumbent.

It may not make for a landslide victory, but if the economy holds up and there are no major security issues, it won't be good enough for the majority of people to boot the current resident at 1600 Pennsylvania.

I also suspect the real Mitt Romney came through. I viewed Mitten's deeper message "vote for me because I have made a lot of money". We should all know who our wealthy masters are; respect and love them. It is good to know that being a Constitutional Professor, having a law degree from Havard, and working with the masses disqualifies you from being President.

There are also dangers for Romney in my grandfather was a contractor, my father didn't complete college, I worked hard and am counting my money ... er blessings.

He does not want to go further back than his grandfather, to say the least.

the speech had a familiar snarkiness ( not sure if that's a word) reminiscent of
what we have come to expect from Palin. Many people find that extremely irritating.

There was defiantly a renewed confidence.

Mitt managed to carry off the "community organizer" bit with good humor. He has one real advantage with hard lines. Mormons are schooled from day one in being polite, civil, and good neighbors. Palin can't hide her nastiness. Whoever the Real Romney is, hiding core beliefs is SOP for the LDS church. You won't see Malice from Mitt, he will leave that to his SuperPacs.

The BS games, 2B trolled out by the SuperPacs remain under wraps
but, without question, they are looking at all his uber negative ads,
including the ads outsourced to Ron Paul.
