2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumhow many people are losing sleep over the thought of Trump winning?
I know I am. I can't stand to see what this country has come to, and how simply awful this man is. I'm not even sure I can imagine the extent of the dystopian state we would be in, if he was sworn in as president.

(46,130 posts)I'm hoping the polls are wrong and manufactured. By that, I mean the numbers are pre-selected to be a false 42/41 by the media to gin up interest. OTOH I am concerned that Trump's numbers on polls could be artificially low if supporters won't admit they're voting for him -- and they show up to do just that on November 8.

(2,944 posts)OOPS - we elected W. Bush twice

(99,710 posts)Trump is an authoritarian who shows disdain for democratic norms and the rules of law. They really aren't similar.

(3,284 posts)As much as I hated Bush, he was at least a known quantity, and rather typical for his party. Trump is a whole different animal (or should I say beast?). His wildly unpredictable mood swings and erratic behavior are terrifying.

(99,710 posts)Bush* didn't create an atmosphere where high school basketball players in Indiana were hollering at their Hispanic American opponents "build a wall."
Bush* didn't create an atmosphere where the Jewish supporters of his opponents were caricatured as being led into gas chambers by him in a NAZI uniform.
I could go on...

(2,003 posts)Regardless, he will have millions of angry, pissed-off people following him and they're not going to just disappear. They will still remain our neighbors, coworkers, family members... And many of them will not accept Hillary Clinton as their President.
No matter which side is popping champaign bottles on election night, I feel that things are going to get worse before they get better. There are two very different Americas right now.

(7,723 posts)and I don't trust him with it, AT ALL. He WILL go after his enemies, that is in his book. THAT is my worry. He could very easily literally destroy American democracy.

(8,034 posts)low probability but extremely high seriousness. It's a situation that requires a contingency plan. I don't have one. That's why I wake up at night feeling anxious and can't go back to sleep.

(5,008 posts)Control. I guess if we survived the GW Bush we will somehow survive under Trump. Yes, the country will probably be in the hell that Bush left it but nothing we can do. I just hope the dumb asses that vote for him suffer the most. I have a feeling that Trump is going to win so I'm preparing for that. This election is starting to feel like 2004. The media and republicans have painted Hillary in an unfair light. Usually I would say debates could be the turning point. However, most have made up their minds. The rest will likely be swayed the media spin that Trump won on style.

(3,626 posts)1. Women flip and go Trump over Hillary
2. Millennials don't come out at all, or vast numbers go third party (they aint going Trump)
3. Hispanics come out at low levels
4. AAs come out at low levels
5. Educated whites change their mind
6. Whites reverse significantly their declining share of the vote
I can see some of these things happening, but I highly doubt all of those things happen.

(7,963 posts)That they are pushing this to be much closer than what it actually is. I keep reminding myself that he absolutely CANNOT win without the POC vote.
Also, the EC path for him to win goes through virtually EVERY SWING state that he is not leading in. If you think about it, electorally, his chances are pretty darn slim.
