2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe pointlessness of presenting facts to Trump supporters
In my recent experience, here's how social media conversations with Trump supporters tend to go:
Trumpite: Hillary Clinton did X! She should be in prison!
Non-Trumpite: That's actually not true. Here are three sources explaining what really happened.
Trumpite: You're an idiot lib-tard!
Non-Trumpite: Just show me some evidence that backs up your initial claim. In the meantime, here is a link to audited financials and other evidence that refute what you are saying.
Trumpite: Fuck off! You are a troll and a horrendous disgrace to America who probably loves ISIS. What I initially said is true and you're just a blind moron if you don't believe it. I win.
Facts really don't matter to them. Feeding their unfocused rage is all they care about.

(10,252 posts)They are fueled by hatred and resentment, old grudges, feelings of insecurity, and envy. They cannot stand to see people of color get anything of value, such as education, careers, nice homes, happy families. Very mean spirited and unhappy people. Which goes to show that hatred makes you stupid.
Donald Trump reminds them every day of all the reasons why they should nurture hatred.

(13,570 posts)If he wants to make America great, why does he make his ties and shirts in China and Mexico?
Why is your coward candidate hiding his tax returns?
Why is he hiding his charity records?
Why is he having a bromance with Vladimir Putin?
Why has he gone bankrupt and stiffed his contractors time and again?
You can't answer can you? You just lost Trumpite. Now go play with Don The Con.

(6,837 posts)Every negative thing reported about Trump is dismissed as another lie from the "liberal media." They don't even bother to check things like that out. Their response is to attack the source, attack the person posting the information, and then declare victory.

(453 posts)I hate bandwagons and childish insults. I try my best not to go there, but I've encountered a few of them myself. I sometimes comment on NBCnews articles. There's one named conservative genius. I like to tell him that his name is an oxymoron.
I also may have told him how sad and pathetic his life must be that he works for free trolling the Internet. I imagine him in a dark smoke filled room. The walls are covered in wood paneling. I imagine him sitting there in a polo shirt and gym shorts firing off about Obama, Clinton, "Mooslims", you name it... While Fox News plays all day long. I imagine he was a terrible father and his kids don't speak to him and that the last thread of his will to live depends on him pretending to contribute to this country by name calling online.

(520 posts)Most of my Republican friend are Vets or know, I am.
I let them start the conversation, because I know they can't resist.
My answer is simple, "I didn't serve to hand this country over to Russia!" Thing get real quite after that. If they came back we normally have a great conversation and I push them to a third party. I know these A-holes well, they would never vote for Hillary.
I find "little is much" with this hateful group. But deep down in their hateful soul, Vet's still don't want to be associated with Communism!!

(3,660 posts)It's for the mushy apathetic middle who may vote on news coverage and yard signs. Once somebody has at this point made the willing decision that Trump is the best candidate based on objective evidence then there is no way to sanity from there. We are talking to others who may be able to hear still. That's why I just laugh, albeit derisively, at Trumperisms one on one, but refute in public.
