In Orlando, Clinton Vows to Protect the Rights of People with Disabilities
In Orlando on Wednesday, Hillary Clinton outlined her vision for an Inclusive Economy in the latest in her Stronger Together series of speeches. Clinton vowed to fight for an economy that works for every American, not just those at the top, and that welcomes people with disabilities, values their work, rewards them fairly and treats them with respect.
Ive always believed that the ultimate test of our society is more than the size of our economy or the strength of our military, Clinton said. Its how we treat our fellow human beings, especially the most vulnerable among us. And on this front especially, I intend for my presidency to move our country forward. Together, we will make our economy and our country more welcoming to people with disabilities, because we all win when everyone gets to share in the American dream.
Clinton outlined how she is the only candidate with a plan for an economy that includes more people with disabilities. She has been an advocate for people with disabilities from her days at Childrens Defense Fund through her appointment of the first ever Special Advisor for International Disability Rights when she was Secretary of State.

(36,926 posts)I've worked with individuals with disabilities since my teens. Later became a licensed professional counselor and school psychologist. My career focus has ALWAYS been about giving voice to the voiceless. This is a HUGE reason for my Hillary Clinton support!

(29 posts)This is great. I think Clinton's attacks against Drumpf have hit their peak. Anyone who hasn't heard the message that Drumpf is a racist, unstable con-man is not going to be convinced now.
Sure, keep hammering Drumpf, but it's time for Clinton to run ads that summarize her good works, and give people reasons why they should vote FOR HER, and not just against Drumpf.

(58,713 posts)It won't reach the hopeless Trumplodytes, of course. They think that helping the disabled and the "weak" (by their definition, of course) is bad for the gene pool. Funny how those who reject science and evolution are so quick to go to the Darwinism that eugenics is rather loosely based on.
Discrimination against the disabled is just racism of another flavor. It's finding someone easy to look down on to make oneself feel somehow superior.
Ms Clinton knows, and she knows she is right. That's what the far righties hate about her. They know she's right, too, and hate themselves because of it.

(714 posts)I found this really hit me. A lot of people don't know that it's legal to pay a disabled person less than minimum wage under the idea that this person won't be able to do their job fully, or will need extra assistance or accommodation. For example, Goodwill pays some of it's disabled workers as low as 22 cents an hour. Here's a little expose on the practice, http://investigations.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/06/25/19062348-disabled-workers-paid-just-pennies-an-hour-and-its-legal
But good job Secretary Clinton, you hired some excellent people for your campaign. I have been continually impressed with their media outreach and the professionalism of her campaign is a breath of fresh air dealing with Drumph supporters all day. Of course, I still would have preferred Sanders, but we deal with the world we have, not the world we want.

(21,195 posts)I so fear a Cheeto presidency because he has obvious disdain for people with disabilities. My right wing brother in law who is a Cheeto supporter thinks my son is a waste of tax payer money. I think a lot of Cheeto supporters would support cutting funds for the special needs population. Or embrace the " hitler solution " for special needs people.
I know president Hillary Clinton will do all she can to help special needs people.
