Obama 2012 - Diversity, LGBT, Naturally Growing Substances - Hippies Finally Win!

OK, so we Democratic Baby Boomers can take some credit for the Obama victory and a country that is making some of our Woodstock dreams come true. Maybe 40 years later than we 'd hoped - but I never thought I would see an African America in the Whitehouse - and now twice! And, he can sing Al Green tunes!

Shows that the Liberal dream inspires our better angels - unlike the dark elements of the way the haters see the world. Start checking for an expanding number of ponytails and earrings on males ages 48-66.

The struggle continues - but each victory is a great source of joy.

57 yo here. Still an idealistic, peacenik, somewhat spacy hippie. I embrace myself in this. Glad to have my values embraced by the larger culture, as well.

Dreams From My Father starts out in his tenement apartment on 94th between 1st and 2nd. He said his friends would always have to call him from a nearby gas station whenever they visited because the building had no intercom (few tenements did back then). My friends would have to call from the same gas station, which was basically right next door to me on 1st Ave. It was a very scrappy neighborhood back then, mostly Puerto Rican (Obama alludes to one of his aged Puerto Rican neighbors in the book) with no shortage of street-level drug dealing and numbers joints. Now he comes to NY to give speeches at the UN and tell jokes to the financial terrorists at the Al Smith dinner. The guy has had an amazing life, but he remains grounded. So happy that we have him for two terms.

it's wonderful that obama has had such a varied life, it makes it easy to identify with all of us!
