The 180 Tell means you can exactly reverse what a right-wing propagandist is saying and get a perfectly accurate statement. It works two ways:

1. Whatever they say about themselves is true if you reverse it. When they say they’re white, you know they know they’re black, and just covering up.

2. Whatever they say about us is true about them. They tell us they’re robbing the poor when they say we’re doing it.

There’s not a more perfect example of the 180 Tell than the Matalin statement above. Go ahead; reread it. It’s a spot-on description, not only of the Romney campaign, but all modern Republican campaign tactics. What Limbaugh says daily works the same way, by the way. Reverse what he says and the man hits the mark every time. It’s his genius, such that he has one.

1. This is interesting. I think there is also a form of projection going on.

Psychological projection or projection bias is a psychological defense mechanism where a person subconsciously denies his or her own attributes, thoughts, and emotions, which are then ascribed to the outside world, usually to other people. Thus, projection involves imagining or projecting the belief that others originate those feelings.

2. Oh yeah. I used to think that Sociopaths project all the time. That they project their darkness onto

their victims. Didn't know it had a proper name. I guess they are not the same thing because the person projecting, doesn't know they are, and that is the difference. The person doing the 180 degree tell knows they are lying. I'm not an expert. But think that could be the difference. Maybe it has a bit of reaction formation thrown in.

4. Yes. I wish some reporter would say right to Rove's face, on the air, that

he is doing a 180 tell when he complains democrats suppressed the vote. Terribly hurtful to the victims of psychopaths who get isolated by the attacks against them. I was so attacked. Thankfully the science is getting better and there may be a way some day to identify and control them. But what to do with somebody who doesn't get into trouble with the law when they are young and go into politics. The only solution to that is for the people to get wise and learn the names of all the tools of psychopaths. We now have a name for the 180 tell. Let's all use it and hope it sticks.

I had a boss who was a psychopath, they are charming and very dangerous; I could not believe how he targeted the most competent employees and manipulated the others against them similar to what we have seen this election cycle. They are driven by abuse of power and the only way they stop is to expose them and stay sane yourself

5. A tell is used in poker all the time. It's also used in mind reading tricks.

I think the projection idea is possible because some of the right wing nutters actually believe the garbage they spout about people with whom they disagree. They deceive themselves.
