HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. She arrived early to take apart the campaign office piece by piece, just as she felt so many other things about her life were being dismantled. Beth Cox wore a Mitt Romney T-shirt, a cross around her neck and fresh eyeliner, even though she had been crying on and off and knew her makeup was likely to run. A day after the election, she tuned the radio to Glenn Beck and began pulling posters and American flags off the wall.
Her calendar read Victory Day!! and she had planned to celebrate in the office by hosting a dance party and selling Romney souvenirs. But instead she was packing those souvenirs into boxes, which would be donated to a charity that sent clothes to South America. Instead a moving company was en route to close down the office in the next 48 hours, and her friends were calling every few minutes to see how she was doing.

"I just dont get it, the county sheriff said. Im worried we wont see another Republican president in our lifetime the way its going, a GOP volunteer said. What country would want more years of this? asked the newly elected alderman.
Cox shrugged back at them. I dont know anymore, she said. What the heck happened to the country? Who are we becoming?

(31,828 posts)Well worth the time to click through the link . . . she is the 'face' of those that call US the 'others'. We've been 'othered' by them - and now they don't know what to do with our repudiation of their belief system. And it is truly a FAITH based belief system for that type of Republican voter.

With any luck. They will never get a clue!

(3,888 posts)existence in the republican bubble and what that actually has meant to our political, economic, environmental, and social circumstances today.
Not only has living in a bubble caused them to be unable to anticipate, with any sense of accuracy, the outcome of the election it has left them ill-prepared to understand other simple dynamics too, such as: how taxing the rich might effect their pocket-book or the nation's debt problem, how universal health coverage would bring down the cost of health care, how human actions might cause the earth to warm, or how reading a book might provide useful information.
They have put themselves, individually, at a great disadvantage by their willful ignorance and they have made the problems we all have to face more difficult.
They should reject Fox News and voluntarily self-deport themselves to a re-education camp somewhere in Montana.

(27,449 posts)Not too many people feel much sympathy.
But she'll be fine. I doubt her narrow world will change much. She still lives in red red TN. She can continue to watch Fox and listen to Glenn and forbid her kids from reading Harry Potter books. Obama won't take her guns away or force her to have Gay friends.

(54,399 posts)A country true to the ideals of the Founding Fathers, maybe? Beyond their wildest dreams, of course, as they knew no world without slavery, or a country that extended coast to coast, or one where all inhabitants of the continent were American citizens with nominally equal rights, including the female half.
In other words, a country totally foreign to people who get their "information" from Fox and National Hate Radio.
These people need to ask themselves if they might not have been the victims of a massive con job. But the never will.
It's so more comfortable to sink in their own delusion than to question anything, and so they won't.
