And I am going to be wrong by saying this, but I remember the first time I saw his wife with him. I was like who is that old lady with the General, I could not believe someone like him was with her. She did not look like the prototypical General's wife. As wrong as this sounds I can understand how someone with his power would stray. His mistress is way hotter than his wife. There I said it.

But the general is no great looker himself. He has the demeanor of a hayseed.

How dare you suggest his wandering is "understandable" given his wife's looks.

like Jimmy Carter. Who was no great looker either.

Men betraying their wives (members of either sex betraying their life partners) is almost never "understandable." It's common, but it doesn't have a rationale.

.. I agree that betrayal in and of itself is never something to take lightly. However, I have always look at such matters as something I couldn't and shouldn't judge. I have no idea what the General's life with his wife was like. I have no basis upon which to make a call about whether he is a cad, or an asshole, or involved in a dysfunctional - or maybe even abusive - relationship.

I have known people who strayed because their spouse was genuinely unbearable, had withdrawn from them, or had decided they no longer wanted sex. I have a good friend who started having affairs after her husband had repeatedly strayed himself over a 17 year marriage. I always felt I had no business judging any of them unless I had walked in their shoes, and I truly believe all of them are decent, moral people who simply found themselves to be weak in difficult circumstances.

Now, stating that he was justified in having an affair because his wife is unattractive is shallow. And the question of whether his affair compromised his country is another issue altogether. But I'm not ready to pigeon-hole someone into the stereotype of the philandering husband until I know more facts.

I am glad he's gone, should have happened a long time ago.
Petraeus was itching for another war, dyed in the wool Rethug that he is, if Mitt Romney had been elected POTUS, Petraeus would have gotten his wish.
They all used each other in different ways, for different reasons.

or tradesman, he wouldn't get a second look from any woman. Frankly, he's a very unattractive man.
His wife is a pretty woman that looks as if she has spent her life raising children, caring for a home,
doing all the work a single Mother does because her husband was on the world stage. Holly Petraeus
is also an accomplished career woman and has worked tirelessly for veteran families.

Mrs. Petraeus with a new hairstyle is much prettier woman than he is a handsome man. He always
looked wimpy to me for such a powerful man. Guess it was his wimpy character shining thru.

extramarital sexuality the next frontier. Hard to reconcile what with cultural and biological programing. Not an easy fix.

And furthermore, lest we forget how many women in the military are "commanded" to have sex with superiors... Looks have nothing to do with it on the woman's part at that point. Egoism is a dangerous thing, especially in places of power.

This Broadwell gal seems to have been either gold-digging or in on a conspiracy or both. Wouldn't it be the cherry on top if she and her hubby & kids were found taking refuge from the press at the Kelley's in Tampa? The media say that the trucks are in the driveway but the lights weren't on at night. Maybe they skittered away on somebody's private jet, maybe? And just where did that charlatan, Rmoney slink off to and I wonder if there's a group vacation going on in the Caymans right about now... with the Broadwells as mansion/villa guests? I can't help but wonder.

also was close to Carl Rove, maybe whispered in his ear, and then he (Rove) gave that tip to ,,,Fox faux news.
I don't think she cared what the General looked like, this situation was about much more than a sexual liaison.

When a man cheats it's his wifes problem and they need to work it out. Why does anyone else need to be involved.

Some guy on CNN just said Petreaus should just do what Kobe did...buy his wife a nice piece of jewelry. Now that is offensive to ALL women.

when the girlfriend was possibly trying to hack the email account of someone with classified information involving national security. This thing is deeper than we think, and we will find out more in the future.

The fact that he resigned shows he stepped in it big time here.
