First Debate Highlights: That Moment Every Woman Knew What It Felt Like to Be Hillary

I wasn’t going to write about last night’s debate, I really wasn’t. And then I started watching it. My god. Wow. Let me just highlight a few things that stuck out to me. Let’s start with this:

[image][/image]

Yep. You read that right. Clinton had five “fleeting interjections” while Trump had three interruptions (successfully grabbing the floor) and twenty-four “fleeting interjections.” Some have argued that that is an undercount, and that Trump actually interrupted Clinton fifty-one times.

Watching Trump talk all over Clinton while she smiled and retained her composure was fascinating, horrifying, and a bit too true-to-life. Not only did he interrupt her constantly, he did something I’m not sure I’ve ever seen done in a presidential debate—he talked over her while she spoke, during her turn, in a sustained manner, essentially carrying on a running commentary while she was speaking. And she just kept going. She never lost her composure. She was steady, she was determined, she was amazing. And every woman who has ever had to coexist in conversation with a less-prepared braggart who thinks he knows more than her knew exactly what it felt like to be Hillary Clinton at that moment.

Oh, and then there’s the part where Clinton pointed out that during the few years we do have access to his tax returns, because they were subject to an investigation, he had paid nothing at all in federal income taxes. Trump interjected, speaking over her momentarily: “That makes me smart.” He later talked about the four bankruptcies his companies have been through in a similar way: “I take advantage of the laws of the nation because I’m running a company. My obligation right now is to do well for myself, my family, my employees, for my companies. And that’s what I do.” In other words, it’s too bad Uncle Sam had to pay his bills. He’s obligated to do whatever he can to take advantage of American laws and American taxpayers.

And also he wagged his finger at her when he discussed the emails. I am so sick of sexists...I have seen it was everywhere this year...even the primary.

He really did hold back on this one. And now he thinks he shouldn't have. Multi-millionaire and still can't buy a clue.

His handlers might be admonishing him, and try some more intensive training techniques but it the end, The Donald will be The Donald. He is way too delusional, egotistical and set in his ways to ever change.

We've seen what happened the few times he tried to moderate himself - he looks surly and sounds like an animatronic version of himself.

He's a take-charge kind of guy who doesn't follow rules, and he's exactly what we need to make this country great again.

Sure, those of us in the reality-based community recognize him as a zero-value poser masquerading as a presidential candidate, but Trump's Chumps exalt him for his very worst traits and behaviors.

is when the person speaking is interrupted and Yelled at by the opponent. Whoever YELLS the loudest and the longest, wins the argument. This is akin to two Married couples having a shouting match, the one who yells the loudest WINS.

People great at debating (Fox News Style) Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Rush Limabaugh, Laura Schlessinger , Michael Savage, etc...

And they always interrupt at the exact moment when the other person starts to make their strongest point, rather obnoxious. Speaking of interruptions, I noticed on post debate coverage that Chris Matthews would always interrupt Joy.

... not to mention the "broken microphone."

These people are psychotic and delusional. They will never, ever, ever be able to accept reality and acknowledge that Trump lost. Nope, it was all a big hit piece on him and everything was rigged, Clinton cheated, the moderator was a bully, etc. Any and every excuse in the book.

When he loses in November they will scream nonsense for the next four years about the stolen election.. let them. FUCK THEM. if they don't get their way they throw tantrums and hissy fits, and they are to be completely ignored and brushed aside, not reasoned or compromised with.

She's avoided much of the election coverage, but said she wanted to watch the debate. I cautioned her that watching Trump was going to make her angry (I used the word angry, I should have used a different word).

She told me when I got home last night that she couldn't sleep after watching half of the debate. Trump's abusive bullying was very triggering for her.

Some men in my life do it constantly and unconsciously. And women like myself usually stop and let ourselves be interrupted, and absorb internally the anger that it produces.

I'm going to try what Hillary did: just not stop talking even though some guy is talking over me. Seems a better plan, overall, and might change some of the mens' awareness.

She never got flustered or stammered or raised her voice...she gave away nothing as she continued to alternately ignore and call out the annoying carnival barker.

It's not easy to maintain control and too many times in a meeting I've just stopped talking when interrupted by a bully coworker, then later would get upset with myself for not holding my ground. There's danger in that though, because sometimes in holding my ground I'd talk louder and it may have been perceived as yelling and not being professional.

It's such tricky terrain to navigate and Hillary was amazing.

job of telling him to shut the hell up. I know he did try a couple of times. I kept getting this image of a whip and a chair, or maybe a taser, every time drumpfy interrupted.
