2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCan we stop with the concern troll accusations?
We're all concerned, it would be insane not to. I don't want to ignore bad news just because it's bad. I've seen long-time highly respected DUers called concern trolls (explicit or implied) for posting poll results and legitimate points of concern.
Yeah, there was a time that there were people here who wanted Trump to win, and found cheeky ways to express that desire. Those people are gone now. Yeah, there are going to be trolls, but DU now is populated with progressive Dems who are all on the same side and want to see Hillary elected. And yes, most of us are concerned (to put it mildly) about the unthinkable other choice.

(2,542 posts)The direct match between some usernames here and at the malcontents' splinter site give proof to that.

(15,596 posts)It's dismissive and condescending; pretty much everything rightwingers accuse us of. Anyone not concerned over the stupidity and gullibility of the average American voter didn't pay attention in 2000 (or 2004) or won't have to suffer if the moron wins.

(36,437 posts)It's a quick accusation...
I've seen several cases of what was labeled as "concern trolling" by people who really were asking a question based on emotional fear.
Hell, I've felt that at times and found people on DU who were doing a great job of explaining the details - that made me feel better. Not sure everyone is getting the benefit of this though.

(1,786 posts)Is another persons legitimate point. There are plenty of reasons for the concern. Trump is clearly unfit for the office yet he has still got this far and he could win. So complacency by thinking this is in bag for HRC because trump is clearly insane/unhinged/unfit/potential coke addict and American voters would not let that happen is terribly unwise. Republicans may not like Trump...but they hate HRC more. There simply is not a more polarizing figure for republicans than HRC.
Between...
Low voter turn out. Historically an issue with Dems.
Voting machine vulnerability. See the HBO documentary "Hacking Democracy".
New Voter ID laws. The primaries highlighted some of these issues.
Voter roll purging.
Incorrect Ballots. Once again the primaries shined a light on this.
Mail in ballot issues.
Gerrymandering of districts that has taken place.
Voting restrictions/overcrowding. Another issue during primaries. Some districts had 5-6 hr lines before people could vote.
Voter registration issues...
Etc, etc...
The list goes on for potential ways this election could go south for Dems. We need to be vigilant and active to ensure votes get made and counted correctly. I have no doubt that republicans are going to try/do everything they can to ensure Trump wins...hell he does not really even have to win...he just needs to be close. It would not surprise me at all to see this election end up back in the Supreme Court like 2000 (I suspect that is a big reason why they have not held a vote on a replacement for Scalia). If HRC does not win by a decisive margin that is exactly where this will end up. Republicans will have an army of lawyers across the country on call.
This is not over by a long shot. The concern is absolutely legitimate...
