a complete command of information and policy details vs. Trump's manic idiocy and boorishness, she was slammed by supposedly nonpartisan pundits as being smug.

Her ability to maintain control and not flap her arms, mug for the cameras, or rudely interrupt and talk over her opponent was criticized for being "robotic."

She was criticized as cold, "not human" or "relatable." Her intense preparation was presented as signifying some sort of character flaw, as though it was proof that she was the suck-up nerd in schools that no normal person could possibly like, or even tolerate.

Basically, because of her competence, preparation, and self-control, she was Tracy Flicked.

BTW, that movie was--unintentionally, I think--a perfect representation of the way certain men cannot bear to see a woman openly display ambition and climb to the top by virtue of intelligence, hard work, meticulous preparation, and sheer grit.

Even as we chuckled at the foolish, self-destructive lengths the Matthew Broderick character went to in his attempt to derail her campaign, we were also supposed to find Tracy Flick as repulsive as the protagonist did.

We were meant to despise her open ambition and her insistence on responding when a question was asked in class, thus "showing off" how intelligent and well-prepared she was to answer any question the teacher might pose.

The personable but simple-minded jock the teacher recruited to run against her was a perfect embodiment of the shallow figurehead politician manipulated by others to serve their own agenda.

And the movie's attitude toward Tracy Flick is all too recognizable, all too familiar to smart, ambitious women who break the rule that says women do not belong in the public sphere where important decisions are made, that women are not supposed to push themselves forward, seek the spotlight, or attempt to outshine men.

He is interrupting quite a bit. I think he is a nice guy and he doesn't look good talking over Pence as much as he is. He needs to reel it back. Pence Is letting him speak. All that aside, screw Pence.

He's dead wrong on the issues, but many people (and our media) will not care about that. That's why we have to keep pulling them along into the future, and it's an awful, unending slog.

appear like Pence is routing him. I think Kaine was a bad choice but overall I don't think it will have much of an effect except that Hillary could have picked someone more momentous and less in the establishment mold. Someone people would be interested in. Kaine has this look too, I know it's superficial but he just looks mean.
