Kaine was earnest. Pence was slick.
The latter looks like the guy who forecloses on granny. He is your typical GOP Chamber Of Commerce politician.
Objectively grading the debate I would call it a push with a slight edge to Pence. He was so slick !!! Kaine's one flaw was interrupting. If he didn't interrupt so much I would have given him the edge.
At the end of the day Pence helped Pence. He didn't help Trump. He let Kaine's attacks against Trump go unrefuted. If I was Trump I would be upset.
This wasn't an ass whuppin like the whuppin Hillary gave Trump. The debate only reinforces existing perceptions. By that metric Kaine served his ticket well.
