1. Why am I not surprised?

People who are rich enough not to need Social Security either want to eliminate it or privatize it.

Social Security was intended to be one leg of a three legged stool. The other two legs were pensions and personal savings.

I happen to be one of those for whom SS (I am currently collecting) is about one third of my income. As it should be. But for anyone out there who is not insanely wealthy, could you afford to cut your income by one third?

I didn't think so.
