2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHow about some kudos for David Fahrenthold?
For all the (appropriate) bitching and complaining we do about the mainstream media, this guy has shown himself to be an outstanding investigative reporter for the last year.

(37,364 posts)He's done a yeoman's job and them some. So has Eichenwald. The alt-right, racist Trump supporters see their shot at power slipping away. I hope they have protection because these people are scary hatefilled.

(28 posts)As others have commented, the con's followers taste blood. Sigh.
Names are interesting! This investigative journalist who no doubt rethug primary runners wish they
would have employed deserves praise. That said, I'm struck by Fahrenthold similarity to Bradbury's novel Fahreheit
451.

The story moved so quickly to the ramifications of it that a lot of the articles I read didn't make that clear.

(20,214 posts)The fact that Bush was laughing and egging him on looks bad for Billy AND Access Hollywood. After all, Trump is bragging about trying to fuck Billy's co-host, Nancy Odell, and Billy thinks it's funny. Yet, Billy still had a job.
Besides the fallout for Trump, Billy's career in broadcasting may be over. I bet Al Roker is having a good belly laugh. They clashed in a major way over Ryan Lochte.

(15,328 posts)I think it's too bad that we only get a few journalists, investigators that make it to the front page.
Too many that don't survive since they or their message is snuffed out by the powers-that-be.
Is there a "wall of fame" with a dynamically changing list of individuals and reporters that are posting on the state of the world? I certainly don't trust anything remotely associated with the M$M or a government.

(43,281 posts)a great reporter does his homework
but is sometimes limited by what his bosses will pay for, or what
they will allow him to report on
but a great reporter with solid research always gets a hearing
and a great reporter is hungry for the story, like a baseball relief
pitcher who always says "give me the ball"

FAHRENTHOLD: Well, the Trump Foundation's tax returns are public. That's one thing. So we can look through them in a way that we can't look through his personal tax returns. They're publicly available going back to the beginning of the foundation, which is 1987. And so you can look in there and you see both the money that's come in and the money that it's - that's been given out. And so what we've done is called a lot of the folks that were listed as recipients of the Trump Foundation's donations to find out, you know, why did he give? What was his connection with these charities? And there's a couple of things that are really interesting.
One of them is that there's no sort of abiding cause. And a lot of the times you see a wealthy person will help one group year after year, one cause - cancer research, for instance, autism research, a particular college or university. There's nothing like that in Trump's foundation. Instead, the main theme in the gifts seems to be that they help Trump's personal life or his business life.
