2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIn my view Hillary and the campaign, unless asked, do not need to pile on. It has a life of its
own, and the media will do the job quite efficiently for them.

(10,437 posts).....I will say sunday night will the nastiness night of politics we have ever seen, I guarantee mad dog trump will be a rabid frenzy after the first female audience member puts him on the spot for his life long disrespectful behavior and attitudes towards women...and trump will always frame his replies to blame Bill and Hillary....we may see a new shimmy from Hillary

(92,395 posts)Hillary will go after him on the issues at a higher level. That includes the Supreme Court, his racism, sexism, and xenophobia, but also the draconian policies that the republicans have been pushing on the American people for a long time
For months trump has be spewing racist, sexist rants, while the media essentially ignored it. Now a 2005 recording comes to light, and suddenly the media feigns shock when this has been going on all along during campaign. It wasn't that long ago when he made the Megan Kelly menstrual cycle comment.
Don't get me wrong, I hope this not only destroys trump, but the republican party as it stands today.

(36,926 posts)However, this thing has powerful legs, and I think the audience will be all over it tomorrow. It goes to the questions about character. We all know how that will work out for Groper Don.

(92,395 posts)that trump is not fit to be President" is the perfect measured response

(47,209 posts)Not clear enough. Both women he discussed on tape he had professional relationships with- and one he tried to get fired. She should make sure people realize that it's not "just personal" or "a joke".

(92,395 posts)assault and harassment, this can very quickly evolve into a foray of distractions.
Bill Clinton, and his sexual harassment past will be brought into the picture by the republicans and the trump campaign, and though Bill Clinton isn't running for President, the distraction I believe will be diverted in this form. They will criticize Hillary for remaining with Bill Clinton, and hurl other innuendos in the same direction.
Even though this amounts to blaming the victim, I think if Hillary personally pushes in that direction, it will get thrown back to her in the form of the past behaviors of Bill Clinton, and the issue of sexual harassment will be lost in a distraction of "one side is as bad as the other". It won't matter if Hillary was the victim. Bill Clinton is part of her campaign.
Her surrogates can and will be the ones who will handle the nitty gritty
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)It's not something she can wish away at this moment, but I'm surliness you think she'd actively want to keep rolling in the mud. That doesn't sound anything like Hillary, so I think your concerns are unfounded.

(92,395 posts)opportunity not only to take the Senate, but also the house. That would be amazing, it would change the entire direction of the country. If that happened there would be no excuse for not getting progressive change done
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)They actually have to answer to their own diverse constituencies. I'm excited at the possibility of a lot of progress, but the process is never all that easy.

(92,395 posts)I only speculate, hope, wish for that. If no thing else that should at least be advanced by SC appointments

(30,817 posts)If Morning Joe starts talking about the way guys talk when they are together, or how Bill Clinton did worse (where does that allegation even COME from?), then we know we will need more drip, drip on this.
I think more women stepping forward will help considerably in driving this point home.

(25,270 posts)she needs to go after the Repugs and how they have sandbagged Obama and gridlocked Congress. This is an opportunity to go after the down ballot Repugs and take back Congress.
Let Trump be Trump and continue to shoot himself in the foot. Hillary needs to be Presidential now and show the American People what it means to be Presidential.
Trump has no concept of being 'presidential'.

(40,416 posts)Hillary needs to bring this up! This is a guy who we don't anywhere near the White House.
Drumpf has no privilege here. He abrogated that when he announced his candidacy.
Let him stew in the clusterfuck of his own doing.
He's fair game.

(92,395 posts)She needs to continue the message of how she will bring back jobs, the Supreme Court, over-turn Citizens United, preserve Social Security and Medicare, healthcare that works for everyone.
She has already taken a minimalist approach to this by a simple one line statement, "this demonstrates that Trump isn't fit to be President.", and that is perfect
RBInMaine
(13,570 posts)And they should. Yes, stick to other issues too, but Trump is morally unfit for the presidency, and they must go in for the political kill. No quarter! They will crush him with this and much more, and they damn well should.
still_one
(92,395 posts)she has, that trump is not fit to be president, is right on message. Frankly, I am amazed that all the racist and sexist comments that have come out of the trump campaign didn't go against him sooner. Timing couldn't be more ideal though.

(19,970 posts)for perhaps the first time in his life, plus he blames Kellyanne for him losing the last debate. I would be shocked if he didn't do it HIS way and go full metal jacket in this debate. It will all come out.

(45,020 posts)Trump's words and actions speak very clearly for themselves.
Trump would actually love to draw Hillary into a mud fight
and create 'two equal sides'. The only way to win is not to
play that game (Joshua).

(15,951 posts)and then try and turn the tables and ask Hillary about Bill's conduct--because, of course, they have to be "fair."

(92,395 posts)Supreme Court, "forced vaginal probes", the blatant racism and sexism that has been the foundation of the Trump campaign from the start, along with the support of the republican leaders in Congress.
If they bring up Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton isn't running for President. If they approach it by saying she is an "enabler", that is the typical sexist attack that is used to blame the victim, and will be thrown right back into their ugly faces
