Well, that the presidential election has arrived to this point is purely and simply media malpractice.
Sure, we have now a tape where Trump is saying these things aloud, but this is nothing new. The Stern tapes were damning, including a clip where Trump saying Stern he could call Ivanka a piece of a*s. What father, entertainment or not, will say that.
But the corporate media (including MSNBC) were so busy earning big money with these rallies that they did not bother doing the basic vetting any presidential candidate goes through. And here we are, with a presidential election that is at the front page of worldwide media for all the bad reasons.
So, yes, it is possible that Hillary Clinton and the Democratic party will gain from that, but they could as well have lost, and more importantly, no serious discussion about the future of America has been possible.
Nothing was preventing the media from doing months ago the work that people like Farenholt and a few others have been doing, and why it did not happen should be a serious discussion for the future of Democracy.

(37,540 posts)At the end of the day, they were so anxious to win the WH and pick the SCOTUS justices, that they shitcanned their family values schtick and rented their Party to him. Predictably, he has trashed the RNC brand and, hopefully, spend the next decade devolving into a completely ineffectual collection of fingerpointers.

(37,540 posts)That the RNC and 15 other primary candidates were unable to vet their candidate/oponent is far more illuminating of the current Republican mind. Can't run your Party? Hand you over the keys to the WH to run this country? Are you nuts, GOP?

Les Moonves: Trump's run is 'damn good for CBS'
By ELIZA COLLINS 02/29/16 06:15 PM EST
Donald Trumps candidacy might not be making America great, CBS Chairman Les Moonves said Monday, but its great for his company.
"It may not be good for America, but it's damn good for CBS," Moonves said at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in San Francisco, according to The Hollywood Reporter perfectly distilling what media critics have long suspected was motivating the round-the-clock coverage of Trump's presidential bid.
"Most of the ads are not about issues. They're sort of like the debates," Moonves said, noting, "here's a lot of money in the marketplace."
The 2016 campaign is a "circus," he remarked, but "Donald's place in this election is a good thing."
"Man, who would have expected the ride we're all having right now? ... The money's rolling in and this is fun," Moonves went on. "I've never seen anything like this, and this going to be a very good year for us. Sorry. It's a terrible thing to say. But, bring it on, Donald. Keep going.
