He thinks he is entitled to do this and that it is OK. He probably still doesn't even understand why what he said is so wrong and THAT is a huge part of the issue.

People are upset that in a system comprising two major parties, one of those parties is promoting the idea that an idiotic, know-nothing bigot is POTUS material.
People are upset that there are voters dumb enough to vote for a fuckin' idiot because being touted as "NOT politically correct" is so "out", it's "in".

non-PC language is secondary to the issue.
