Democrat Ami Bera has won his tight race against incumbent GOP Rep. Dan Lungren to fill the 7th District Congressional seat representing the suburbs of Sacramento.
The Associated Press called the race this afternoon as Bera's lead over Lungren had grown to almost 5,700 votes, according to the latest vote count.

(36,437 posts)All he did was beat Lundgren for the seat. You don't win a committee seat when you win the seat.

(1,805 posts)Along with Bono Mack losing - I've been grinning on that one since the election. She was the rep for my sorry ass district and I never thought she'd lose. Lundgren is such an asshat!

(617 posts)Which is a pickup of like 8 or 9 seats I think. What with Gerrymandering after 2010 Census, that's actually a great win for the Dems.

(32 posts)They would need 17 Repubs. 218 is the magic number for passing a bill in the house. ( Unless there are vacancies, then 50% +1 to pass )

(81,281 posts)Great to have each of you with us! Good things come in threes! The more of us there are, the better able we will be to solidify the gains we made on Election Night! We have to build on all those good results, and not take a bit of it for granted. There ARE some, well, semi-sensible opponents who are looking at our strong demographic groups with rawther hungry eyes!
Yep, Issa MUST go! Damn car thief....

(1 post)Finally Dan Lungren wasn't able to rig the district so he could keep "winning" re-election. Maybe people woke up to the fact that Dan Lungren voted against GI bill for vets, against women's right to choose, against health care reform, for holding middle class tax cuts and unemployment benefits hostage until he was able to see his corporate sponsors get their big tax breaks extended, against Pell Grants and student loans for our kids. He was such a (as Duchess puts it) teabilly douchbag! Good riddance. Ami Bera proved you can still win elections with grass roots efforts instead of selling your sole to the special interest super pacs like Lungren.

This is great news. Redistricting in California by a truly independent commission made the difference in this important race.
Congratulations, Ami!
