2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNote to the MSM – There is NO Horserace
Coming off 48 hours of non-stop outrage over a tape evidencing Trumps complete contempt for women, along with the spectre of his previous debate performance wherein he repeatedly demonstrated his ignorance of every substantive issue, The Donald had an opportunity on Sunday night to prove his nay-sayers wrong. Instead, he spent 90 minutes proving them right.
In response to question after question on topics such as education, healthcare, taxes, international trade, and the crisis in Syria, Trumps responses invariably focused on attacking his opponent not on her policies, but her character.
While continually failing to respond to any questions with anything of substance, Trump instead responded by calling Hillary a liar and a disaster. He characterized her as either too stupid to know what a confidential email was, or too careless to appreciate its importance. He accused her of destroying the evidence of her wrongdoing, and threatened her with prosecution should he prevail in this election. He stated that she was full of hatred, and was someone who has never really accomplished anything in her life.
In addition to interrupting HRC repeatedly when it was her turn to speak, he used his allotted time meant to respond to serious policy questions to ramble incoherently, and rattle-off a never-ending string of non-facts that confirmed his total lack of knowledge about every topic raised.
Skulking around stage in a manner that alternated between a red-faced peacock and a predator ready to pounce, Trump left no one wondering what the phrase I moved on her like a bitch meant.
To hear media bobbleheads declare post-debate that Mr. Yuuge Bigly had fared well, had put to rest any misgivings about his competence to govern, and had dispelled the notion that he really doesnt know what hes talking about was akin to hearing Bahgdad Bob insisting that there were no US tanks in Iraq while watching him mowed down by one as he spoke.
We realize that the MSM wants nay, NEEDS a horserace. Its what keeps asses on the couch in the lead-up to election night; its what keeps advertisers pouring their millions into networks that promote the idea that its still anyones game, that anyone can still win this thing all evidence to the contrary.
Well, heres the not-so-late-breaking news: As of Sundays debate, Donald Trump, long thought to be a mindless idiot, confirmed his own stupidity. Having long been suspected of being a vulgar bigot, he finally removed all doubt. Knowing that he is perceived as a self-promoting, empty-headed blowhard, he displayed for all to see that that is exactly what he is.
There is no coming back from what the nation, and the world, witnessed. There is no unseeing what was fully on display; there is no unhearing what was said.
Its over. The horserace ended the minute Trump walked out on stage, and all the psychobabble bullshit from media whores posing as legitimate journalists is never going to put it back on track.
But by all means, keep beating that dead horse. Keep dragging its rotting carcass around the turn, while insisting that hes going to rally any second now and, in a last-minute upset, will win the day.
We understand. As weve all recognized for years, its not like youre actually capable of doing anything else.

(2,067 posts)convince potential voters that this isn't going to be close enough for their vote to make a difference.
Maybe they're not outright saying that, but that's certainly the conclusion that one can draw. And when you see these DUers making these arguments again and again and again it just makes you....wonder.
And if the argument is, well no MadDasHell, the OP is simply trying to tell the media to stop pretending it's a horserace, I simply respond: no, they're not. If they were, this would be not only "addressed" to the media, but we would see it posted on multiple online forums frequented by journalists and other media types.
Instead, the OP's message is posted on a forum for people with Democratic ideals. It may be "addressing" the media, but the OP chose to post it here, and it likely wasn't sent to a single media outlet.
I just find that...interesting, that's all.

(90,829 posts)...that Hillary was "rattled."
I would very much like to know what "tells" they observed that demonstrated to the talking heads of MSNBC and CNN that Hillary was shaken by Donald's vile behavior before and during the so-called town hall.
Because what I saw was a woman dealing patiently with a petulant toddler. I saw a dignified woman standing up to a man who tried to drag her into the sewer while she refused to even say one word on the subject. I saw a woman who never lost her cool for even a second. I saw a woman who given the slightest chance talked knowledgeably and thoughtfully about any policy on any subject.
All the while her opponent was looming over her, making faces, grunting, interrupting, and seething with rage.
So what were the "tells" that I missed?
It took them 24 hours to notice what we all saw: that Donald was stalking her around the stage. Maybe if enough of us ask about this they'll start to notice that Hillary. Was. Not. Rattled. by that overgrown 4 year old.

(1,307 posts)"Was she too subdued in the face of Trump's attacks?"
This, of course, infers that she was cowering in a corner,
that she was intentionally calculated and measured in her
reaction and was not genuine -- a predetermined strategy
that made her look indifferent, or that she was simply too
weak to defend herself.
And if she had retaliated in kind, it would have been interpreted
as negative for HER, i.e. the shrill "bitchiness" meme.
The 24-hour media outlets love to play it both ways. I hate
the analysis that follows the debates -- nothing but endless,
meaningless, mental masturbation which is intended to keep
the plates spinning atop their sticks.
We know the reality of what we heard and saw.

(8,291 posts)He just further proved what all of us already know, he's totally unprepared for the job. He's only prepared to sound like a fox news bot. I felt like Hillary was debating fox news talking points for 90 minutes. He's a stalker and predator and everyone witnessed it.

(1,325 posts)This whole thing has been over for months. Hillary's people aren't going to stay home. STFU Donny's voters are too few. Bernie's voters are for the most part supporting Hillary. The polls have been a media event designed to make the TV watching people think the contest is close, even neck-and-neck. The delegate votes have Hillary winning by a rout. But, the TV people need to sell cars, and beers, and dick pills, and shoes - so on and on it goes. And if the media had even done their job just a skosh, STFU Donny wouldn't have made it out of the blocks.
Republican candidates run without any definable plans, any sense of policy, or any real ideas of what the office requires. And the media simply gives them a pass. And if they actually come up with one of their new ideas (like cutting taxes for the rich), it's always an idea that has been tried, proven to be disastrous; and yet - the media gives them a pass.
