snip...
"... Republican nominee Donald Trump admitted Friday that he knew his recently unearthed comments about groping women and attempting to engage them in extramarital affairs were pretty bad, but everyone should really save [their] energy for what he was going to say next.
Im fully aware that what I was recorded saying about using my celebrity status to sexually assault women is extremely vile and disturbing, but I want you to know that youre really best saving your outrage and disgust for some thoughts I still havent verbalized yet,

I am so confused.

(17,865 posts)Maybe policy on board to always have parody in the title or text. Immediately after it is posted I see some folks going on like it is real. It also saves me from fact checking a parody (I fact check everything before I release DU's wisdom to the world (ie my conservative friends)).
In all seriousness you cannot tell anymore. I see a parody, and I think it sounds more "reasonable" than an actual statement made by Trump or his surrogates.

(3,425 posts)When I fall for an Onion story, I just laugh at myself. Not as hard as I laugh when it happens to a person in government like the time that Louisiana congressman took The Onion's "abortionplex" story seriously and made a fool of himself in front of the entire world.
That being said, in all seriousness I think it's a really good idea to have the DU admins make a policy of labeling a satirical posts as such. Although most us on DU'ers can laugh at ourselves, there is a real danger that outside groups might use that as a way to try to discredit DU. So I'm glad you raised the point.
You are correct that this election cycle is so bizarre it's surreal. It often seems like Trump is being a parody of Trump. Even when I see Trump speaking seriously, I have to remind myself that he really is saying these things, and yes, he is blurring the lines between truth, idiocy and parody.
Also, I am a huge fan of MAD magazine, and even after 40 years, I still grin whenever I see a picture of Alfred E Newman.
Add to that Trump's ridiculous/draconian threat to use the resources of government to go after and jail Hillary, and I just couldn't help myself but make a jab about it. It was a "kill three birds with one stone" kind of post!!
So while I genuinely think your point is valid, if you asked me my level of concern, I'd have to reply "What, Me Worry?"

(10,252 posts)Whatcha gonna do Donnie? Get on stage, drop your britches and moon the TV cameras? Because you're so vile and vulgar, that's what it will take to shock anyone any more. Ya gonna say something mean and nasty about Chelsea's tits? Because that's your level now. Personally, I no longer care what you say. As soon as I see your ugly mug on the TV, I change the channel.
