2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Trouble with Trump
is that TV audiences love to watch a reality TV villian. That is one of the main reasons that Trump is still in contention. Do not underestimate the power of celebrity and the crafted need generated in a large segment of the population to see just what outrageous thing a TV villain will do next. Its entertainment at its finest. Its what we want to watch. From an earlier article: 12 Of The Meanest Reality TV Stars

Okay, we know what the guy is up to now. Who could miss it? For years, hes struck fear into the hearts of contestants on The Apprentice. Its interesting that some of the former contestants have called him no more than a schoolyard bully. He shouted at them, insulted them (stupid being a favorite word), and curtly dismissed them. He told contestant Sam Solovey, that everyone hated him and later cut him down by telling him he was short. Later, he fired him. The look Sam gave him was toxic. Trump has also said that anyone without an ego is a loser. By his own estimation, he must be one of the biggest winners around. His kind of mean is arrogant and dismissive. Like Simon Cowell and Gordon Ramsey, he literally makes contestants cry.
But like an episode of The Twilight Zone, or a Phillip K Dick novel, its all really happening. I'd be stressing everyone not to take a win lightly and skip the actual voting part.
There is also a thing called hate watching which would be more the purveyor of the left I'd gather. Like watching The Apprentice just to watch how gawd-awful he behaves. There is a small part of us that wants to watch someone behave badly, if only to reaffirm that there is such a thing as boundaries and civility to us.

One of the true pleasures of HBOs Game of Thrones the last few seasons has been seething at the outrages committed by oleaginous psychopath Ramsay Bolton. And now, thanks to Big Data, its clear that TV viewers are highly motivated to watch a show if they hate something about it.
But the greater and scarier segment of the TV audience wants to watch this TV villain become a real life reality star for them to watch do outrageous things on the world stage, insulting world leaders, cozying up to Russia. His idea of having a show shot in the White House is within his wheelhouse. I can see it. And I can see it being immensely popular. Line up behind Survivor, Big Brother, and The Real Housewives.
But the bottom line is there is a whole new scarey set of voters this election whose numbers I don't know Hillary supporters are giving enough credit to. They do not know much other than what they've heard; that Hillary is some kind of lying crook like her husband, and Trump is the douchebag from The Apprentice and other shows and is now running for President. They consciously or subconsciously, will not want the Trumpganza to end.
Hillary just does not have the same gifts as her husband or the President...or her political foe. He's been performing in front of a camera for decades. This experience can't be underestimated. Hillary has 1000x the smarts about government operations, but Donald is way ahead of her as a seasoned Reality TV veteran comfortable and even thriving in front of the camera. And there are many more Reality TV viewers out there, than informed voters. And they want to see ACTION! Drama! Something different!
Maybe its a non factor, but I won't breathe easy until Nov. 9th.

(14,175 posts)I wonder, will the Democrats ever have their own TV or movie star run? The party that has a perpetual holy war with Hollywood has already had a movie star and now this TV ham. Not that its necessary, but it may be the future in a post Trump social media world.
