I don't smoke cigars, but I won't mind passing some out on November 9. And I wouldn't mind hosting a little dinner party with some Ropa Vieja and Cuban rum cocktails!

3. I have fond memories of cigars

My paternal grandfather used to smoke cigars, and I remember every year, before the beginning of school, we had to go out to get our supplies (a very exciting time for a 7 or 8 year old girl!). Two trips were required: one to the Ben Franklin five-and-dime to buy scissors, paste, and to choose our own special pattern of oilcloth off a bolt, required to cover our desks during art projects. And a trip to grandma and grandpa's house to pick out a cigar box to use as a pencil case. My grandfather would save them up all year and haul them out for my sister and me to choose from. Lovely Spanish ladies in red dresses, embossed on the cover with lots of gilt flowers and designs. We would pick out our favorite ones and put our pencils in them.

This was before the Revolution mostly, so there were always some Cuban boxes in there too, along with the El Productos and Coronas.

5. One of the women I used to work with was from Havana and used to tell us wonderful stories of

life before the Revolution. What a wonderful memory for you..
