Deep in Red territory, why am I surrounded by people who smugly believe Trump will win?

My profession allows me to work with different groups of people, 4 to 10 at a time, on the hour.

Today I hosted 8 such groups. Because I live in one of the most conservative counties of one of the most conservative states, most of them speak freely of their politics among themselves without fear of having to respond to any challenges.

What shocked me is the universal belief that seemingly every single one of them shared, that a Trump victory was not only inevitable, but that he would win in a landslide.

I guess the echo chamber that they live within has reinforced their confidence in that outcome. But being a dedicated DU'er, and being fully aware that Trump is on the canvas and hearing the standing 8 count, it's chilling to realize that these folks' day of reckoning is about to come...and they're not prepared for it in the least.

I guarantee that every single one of them will think the election was rigged, and a revolt of some nature is forthcoming. Their heads couldn't be further in the sand...or up their asses.

We hate Trump here. He'll still win the state probably but I think most Utahns are convinced he's losing.

9. We've long felt that the far right voter is uninformed.

As a group, they trend against public education, the arts, universal health care, women's rights, economic justice, ethnic and racial minorities, LGBTQs, and scientists.

At some point pretty early in that point of view is a blank screen. They repeat what they are told by their family members or local pastors or whoever's at work, and that's it. They don't read Paul Krugman. They don't listen to Maddow or O'Donnell. They don't know what's in the Constitution. They don't know what's in the New Testament. They don't know U.S. History, never mind world history.

Their attitude bludgeons others' opportunities to excel in the arts, the sciences, and social justice. Howard Dean raised the question to them about why they vote against their own interests, against their own children's education, against their communities' quality of health care, etc. And they just stared at him without response.

I'm sorry they think the election is rigged. They're being coached to think so by their presidential candidate. I hope their ticket loses and loses big. Alright -- bigly.

10. I live in a conservative enclave of a very blue state.

My congressman is a paid up member of the tea party, although I have not heard much about him during this election. While it is depressing from a local point of view, I love the fact that my state is very blue.

From facts. From climate change to evolution. Same thing with polling. On their sites and negative poll results being posted will be removed. Many, many of them will not even watch fox as in their mind it is now liberal.

Liberals can fall to that to a much lesser degree. When Trump was narrowing his margin posting about it here resulted in attacks...but not a hide unless the post was trolling.

November 9 is going to be interesting.

Many of them have also accepted the idea that anything in the media that contradicts their beliefs are a "liberal media" lie.

The ones that I've encountered at work are often allowed to spew their crap unchallenged. Why? Most people who aren't part of their "cult" consider them "lost causes" not worth their time.

When his supporters wake up after election day and hear of electoral landslide, I fear that a number of them will act out in VERY ugly ways.
We already see disdain, violence and rudeness toward minorities, immigrants, LGBTQ's, and face it, anyone not worshiping the Drumpenfuhrer.
