Amidst the swirl of a controversial, sensational presidential campaign, Lake County residents have broken the county's all-time record in terms of voter registration.
As a result, to avoid back-ups and problems on Election Day, the Lake County Clerk's Office is encouraging voters to take advantage of early voting options.
"Voter registration in Lake County is now at 423,808 people. That is higher than any other registration figure we have had in the past," County Clerk Carla Wyckoff reported to the Lake County Board on Tuesday.
By Thursday morning, Wyckoff said that number had increased to 426,505, and it is expected to continue to rise as voter registration will be available at 14 early-voting polling places scheduled to be open Oct. 24 through Nov. 7. Wyckoff said she hopes the early-voting locations are kept busy prior to the election.
In-person early voting currently is taking place only at the County Clerk's Office in Waukegan, where a fairly constant number of voters came and went throughout this week.

This is actually up in the air news for Duckworth, as Lake is Kirk country - but it's probably bad news for Trump, as southern parts of Kirk country are still moderate and will probably go Clinton 55-45.
