Saw this earlier, pretty shocking. Keep in mind that it's pretty easy to fake a message screenshot or tweet though, I think there are even websites that can do it for you.

(12 posts)There are definitely people that would make these threats out there so I'm not discounting it but it's very easy to make an anonymous throwaway account so I'd want to see IP evidence tying it to someone before making anything more than a tabloid headline out of it.

(90,779 posts)It is now on public record and in police and Homeland Security files that reporters and staff of the newspaper The Arizona Republic have had their lives explicitly threatened by self-proclaimed Trump supporters.
The evidence is too great that others are also being threatened for anyone on our side to try to downplay.

(11,949 posts)Throwaway account or not, the threat was made. What are you saying? Maybe I misunderstood but sounds to me like you are minimizing a death threat.

(59,592 posts)These are supporters of the candidate we oppose. This is who many of them are.
This is incitement to homicide and genocide. I don't "like" it any more than you do, but there are many Trump voters who feel exactly the same as the asshole who posted the original Tweet.
Unless we confront the depths to which they are prepared to sink, and the venom they are prepared to uncork, we enter the contest unprepared.

(68,643 posts)I saw this on one of the talks shows...maybe Rachel...and it is a very serious situation... as for a faked screenshot...these people are dangerous and I hope they catch those involved and they do sometime in jail...they threaten the first amendment as well as actual people

(12 posts)But can't we avoid unsubstantiated attacks like that? There are some parallels of nationalism and oppressive antidemocratic threats, yes, but the answer is not exaggerated analogies. [Insert Michelle Obama quote here.]

(16,423 posts)- government paralyzed by political infighting
- government perceived as useless and the "enemy"
- desire for radical change
- promise to restore the country back to a golden age
- hints that the career-politicians have betrayed and backstabbed them ("Dolchstosslegende"
- conspiracy-theories how Big Money ("Weltjudentum" -> HRC+Wall Street) is out to destroy the country
- "Lügenpresse" - the concept that the mainstream-media spreads lies
- brawls and fights at rallies
- blaming foreigners and "others" for your problems: Jews/Communists -> Muslims/Immigrants
- Lie so big that nobody believes you'd be willing to lie about THAT. Lie so fast that it becomes impossible to fact-check you.
- racism
- fascism: radical and violent transformation of society and destruction of accepted norms -> Trump calls for assassinations and revolution. Promises not to accept result of election. Breaks every rule, tradition and decorum that US-politicians live by.
If Trump would run in the same political climate as Hitler, if the US had just embarassingly lost a HUGE war and if the US were just going through a "once-in-a-century" economic crisis, then Trump would win the 2016-election hands down.

(68,643 posts)build walls, have an immigration squad, shut down shows like SNL, threatens jews, Muslims and Democrats and the press. It reminds me of Hitler's early days. And now he says if doesn't win, the election is rigged... dangerous guy and the analogies are not exaggerated.

(21,056 posts)It reminds me of how Duterte is ruling in the Philippines. The way I see it, the way he's saying drug users and dealers have to be killed, someone could just kill and plant some drugs on the person they want offed.

This type of behavior is more common than many think.

(63,221 posts)And Trump just continues to inflame their hatred. He is just as guilty as his murderous followers. If anything happens to anyone at the hands of one of his supporters, he should be thrown into jail right along with them.
