This is good news...if Warner runs for re-election it will be MUCH easier to hold that seat in 2014.

(4,119 posts)Unlike Romney, he's a self-made millionaire. Unlike Romney, he was a great governor. During his term Virginia was rated as the best run state in the country. He's good at governing and business. A bit too centrist for my taste, but people change. I mean him...not me...ha!

(6,336 posts)I'm fairly new in the realm of Virginia politics (I was a congressional field director in VA and I'm not opposed to heading back there to work next year's race), but I liked Terry when I met him.
The guy personally told me I can sleep when I'm dead.

(4,551 posts)He just got elected to the Senate in 2008. Why would he want to leave the Senate and run as Governor? He might as well stay where he is and get re-elected in 2014. He has a good approval ratings where he is and is doing a good job.

(5,066 posts)There was speculation that he wanted to run for nomination In 2016 as sitting Governor of Virginia. He can still run for president
since he should be reelected easily In 2014.
The problem for Warner or another possable Virginia 2016 presidential contender Tim Kaine Is can they appeal to Liberal primary
voters.Warner Is viewed as centist.Granted Warner has largely voted for the Obama agenda. If the 2016 primarys on our side Is to
pick the best Heir to Obama voting for Obama agenda In senate helps.Of course Warner and others have the 2 800 pound gorrilas
everyone Is waiting to see If they run Hillary and Biden.

(33,497 posts)if Webb wants to run he will. He's a pretty bright guy and can figure it out on his own. But I do agree, he would be a good candidate, much better than Terry McAuliffe.

(33,497 posts)He grew up in NY, has never held an elective office in VA. I just don't see him winning.

(24,347 posts)Seems to me to be a double-edged sword--sure, you get rid of jagoffs like Gilmore, but you also lose the guys like Warner and Kaine who actually did half-decent jobs.
