this race has accelerated the movement of educated white people and people of color to the Democratic side, with the GOP becoming a white identity party that has particular appeal to uneducated white men.

Ohio's demographics make it a Republican-leaning state compared to the national average, especially with a white nationalist running

Yeah, the Koch brothers have bombed the shit out of the Strickland campaign, but there has been no response. Just like the 2014 statewide elections here.

Remember Obama promised to look into the worst of NAFTA...but did not do so. Now I know he doesn't have Congress and I get it, but many here feel what is the use. GM and Ford are making cars in Mexico...new this year. We need to make stuff and Democrats need to help bring jobs home. If they do that, they will be elected for the foreseeable future. American workers can not compete with the basically slave labor used abroad. Now we also see white collar jobs moving overseas.

Both democrats and republicans have let them down.

we will lose at some point because some populist will come along and take the votes...not this year thankfully. And I think Hillary Clinton's idea about manufacturing have merit...of course, it won't happen without Congress ...but I like what she has said. I am telling you people are sick of it. We can not be a service economy...too many go hungry. And those who mouth the pols words about the jobs 'not coming back' don't understand, we are finished as a country if we don't get manufacturing back. The jobs certainly could come back. We make autos, steel, electronics etc...we are not talking about buggy whips...stuff can and should be made here. I live in Ohio by the way. I voted straight blue yesterday as did my husband...every member of my family will vote a Democratic ticket. And those who work in banking or whatever white collar industry...you day is here too...many of those jobs are being moved overseas for cheap wages. We have to have jobs...sending our jobs overseas in order to enrich the few is a bad idea and always was.

The cities are strongly democratic but you go into the country and it is like Alabama. When I was driving my uhaul when I moved to the state, I was soaking in some of the local flavor on AM radio. The topic was about how Obamas tax policy was akin to slavery in 1800s. Not a lot of deeo thinkers in some areas of that state.

However, I bet clinton will win Ohio by a few points.

...off our rockers ? I don't know - maybe a little misguided and soft in the melon.

Seriously, I think there's a lot of anger in rural Ohio among folks that used to have manufacturing sector jobs that have left town, Trump's message "I will bring them back!!!" resonates with these folks even though the likelihood he could do it is virtually, if not absolutely, zero. They desperately want to believe someone, anyone will "make their life great again"...this MAGA slogan speaks directly to them. They're f'ing nuts. Add to that a strong anti-choice movement and strong second amendment crowd and you've got a pretty big group of people with specific agendas that, in their minds, outweigh his misogynistic, incompetent history.

I used to live down near Lake Texoma between Texas and Oklahoma. Big dam along the Red River that they'd open up a couple times a year for drainage and flood control. I never say it but people said the right conditions created a pretty healthy whirlpool in the lake where the bypass was. Crazies would go out there in their motorboats to fish in that whirlpool. Insane. Every 2-3 years someone would screw up and get sucked into the intake. Why take the chance ??? Because the fish in that whirlpool were so desperate to get out, the story goes, they'd grab line without a hook to get out.

I don't know if that's a true story but I think there are a lot of ohio voters who are, sadly, so desperate they'd grab line without a hook to get out...and Donald has said all the right things to convince him he's their savior.

f'ed up I know but that's the feeling in a lot of rural waffle houses in Ohio,

My guess is that when you grew up here, there was still a vibrant manufacturing sector. Less so today and that may be the change that has sent these folks off their rockers.

I work in an engineering firm in SW Ohio and it is amazing the shit I hear from so called smart engineers. Someone said something about last nights debate, and I actually let out a snort and whispered "alternate reality".

These are not people who have gotten screwed. Great pay and bennies, but they are afraid the Democrats are going to take their beloved guns, or some other sort of nonsense.

As a recovering engineer myself and the father of three engineers (all HRC Dems by the way), I can see I'm going to have to stand up and defend the ranks of smart engineers. lol

That said, I agree there's a certain alternate reality to their lives. But your last paragraph applies to a lot more than engineers.

I've been blessed in my life, haven't gotten screwed and had great pay and bennies. But I grew up knowing that we have to care for the common good and that has, in my lifetime, typically been a democratic (or liberal) ideal. I also grew up knowing that we aren't going to get to the future wishing we were in the past and that has, in my lifetime, typically been a republican (or conservative) ideal.

I probably live in that same alternate reality you saw this morning among those so called smart engineers. But I know Dems are going to ask me to give back and I'll gladly sign up for that.

So...my request of you...don't confuse smart engineers with assholes. They're not married to their alternate reality because they're engineers...it's just cuz their asshole.

Being smart doesn't give you immunity to being an ass. Couldn't resist.

Have a good one.

With Nina Turner , Lebron , and the Tapes, Clinton should have a lead like in Virginia.

Did Nina feel slighted by the DNC when she lost her bid for State Senate there? I do not see her on TV lobbying for Clinton like she did for Obama in 2012.

Has Lebron said anything publicly besides his initial endorsement?

Because Obama only won Ohio by 3% in 2012, i am scared that Ohio is in jeopardy for Clinton in 2016

Like my foundation, Hillary has always been a champion for children and their futures. For over 40 years, she's been working to improve public schools, expand access to health care, support children's hospitals, and so much more.

She wants to make sure kids have access to a good education, no matter what zip code they live in. She'll rebuild schools that are falling apart and put more money into computer science. She'll make sure teachers are paid what they deserve so they can give everything to their students.

The rest of the story..

They have been fucked over by greedy corporate interests from both parties. Yes, some of them are clinging to anything they can get and can fall prey to promises from dangerous demagogues who promise them that he's going to bring the manufacturing jobs back. Liberals must tell the truth - those high paying manufacturing jobs aren't coming back. They also must find ways to bring higher paying jobs to the rust belt area, and fast. In the manner of the left wing, not the right wing imho.
