2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWant to support downballot Dems? Here's a DUer running for State Rep in New Mexico...
Duer duhneece--Denise Lang--is running against the incumbent GOP Rep who is involved with ALEC and lauded by a Koch brothers group. This Repubican anti-union state Rep is working to turn NM into a 'right to work' state and is leading efforts to turn federal lands over to the state to escape restrictions on oil and gas development.
Our own Denise has a good shot at replacing her Republican opponent and with a Hillary wave bump and our help she can do it.

(53,339 posts)I've seen posts from others in New Mexico, but none from Otero County. Great that you had a chance to cast your vote for Denise!
And thanks for your public service in our election.

(53,339 posts)I met Denise on DU and in our discussions here we learned that her late husband and I were in the same Army hospital at the same time. Not just in the same hospital, but on the same floor.
Mike was an amputee from the Vietnam War, and our floor was half amputees and half facial casualties. I was on the facial side but visited the amputee side, and I probably met Mike. I don't remember the names now, but I probably met Denise's husband.
Discovering that connection blew me away and drew me even closer to Denise.

(53,339 posts)With our injuries, we were there for a LOOOONG time. For me it was 18 months. For Mike, I don't know because the amps spent a long time on an upper floor of the hospital going through their surgeries before they ever came down to us.
Something else I learned from Denise was that one of the amps on my floor at that time was an Army chaplain from my battalion. I had no idea!

(53,339 posts)We've shared some things, but a lot remains unspoken because we just know. She never served, officially, but she went through a lot because of Mike. She is a very special lady.
