http://reverbpress.com/politics/this-is-jason-chaffetzs-real-reason-for-duping-the-media-about-hillarys-emails/Republican Congressman from Utah Jason Chaffetz caused a shockwave in the media and in the 2016 presidential election Friday, when he tweeted that the FBI had reopened the investigation into Hillary Clintons emails.
Across the board, major media jumped on this tweet, blasting out headlines using Chaffetzs phrasing that the FBI was reopening its investigation. This was untrue for several reasons. Informing Congress about the discovery of three possibly related emails while investigating Anthony Weiners communications in a totally unrelated case was a routine clerical matter. As experts were quick to point out, the FBI had not used the word reopened and had yet to assess whether there was anything to investigate at all. The emails were not sent to or from Hillary Clinton, and there was no possible way that they could result in new charges being filed against her.
<snip>
As it becomes clear that Chaffetz had used a fairly inconsequential piece of information to make an enormous media splash 11 days before an election, the question becomes: Why did he do it? The obvious answer is for partisan gain. Clinton maintains a solid lead in the race, and its affecting down-ballot races. But Chaffetz has a political reason that has more to do with his own ambition.
<snip>
So, by using a standard clerical missive from the FBI to send the mainstream media on a wild goose chase, Chaffetz demonstrated that hes willing to usesome might say abusethe power of his position to rattle Hillary Clintons cage to such an extent that the stock market takes a significant dive. Chaffetz is showing he can turn the media against Clinton and send ripples through an election. Chaffetz is showing the Freedom Caucus that he can be their warlord of partisan hostage taking. Chaffetz showed that he can be the House Speaker the extreme right wants.
Jason Chaffetz just announced Friday that he is running to topple Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House in November and the entire mainstream media chased a shiny object and failed to connect the dots. You heard it here first.

(20,998 posts)...then he can, and now he is gunning for the job of Speaker and is willing to show the brutally partisan Freedom Caucus he is willing to be their partisan warlord.
Methinks, the LIAR AND HYPOCRITE from Utah his own Presidential designs.

(67,782 posts)1. He announces he's going to vote for Trump after condemning him a couple of weeks ago.
2. He announces that he's going to campaign for Speaker of the House.
3. Comey issues his letter to the Senate.
All in less than 24 hours.
TOO coincidental for me.
Raster
(20,998 posts)...there is no such thing as coincidence.
The GOP knows tRump will not be elected. Now they're trying to mitigate the Congressional damage.

(9,895 posts)He endorsed, un-endorsed, re-endorsed (not 'really', you know, 'wink-wink, nudge-nudge'; but sure voting for him) and probably just plain "dorsed" Trump in the span of the campaign. He had the temerity to tweet out a few days ago that he was still voting for Trump despite his sudden fit of propriety as Trump was drowning in bad PR and high profile "un-endorsement".
Jason, you are an opportunistic hustler and should be embarrassed to show you face in polite company...which absolutely qualifies you to 'lead' the House anarchists. I just hope you die by choking on your own bile first...

"Are you sure you can't talk?" <nods head yes>
"Are you absolutely sure you can't talk?" <nods head yes>
"Do you want me to do the Heimlich maneuver?" <nods head yes>
"Are you willing to sign this waiver of liability releasing me from all claims of damages resulting from doing the Heimlich maneuver?" <nods head yes>
"Let me get two witnesses to your signature first." <leave room, find two drunks who can't remember their names, let alone sign them.> "Sign here, please." <no response from dead victim>
"Well, I guess that settles that."

(15,805 posts)as soon as Hillary is sworn into office. He'll be the tough guy. He'll 'get' a Clinton, at long last giving the GOP the giant orgasm they've dreamed of since they failed to oust Bill.

(20,998 posts)...and as a perceived clean-cut Mormon from Utah with no marital indiscretions, he appears to be the House Conservative Caucus' wet dream of a Clinton hit-man.
Oh yes, Chaffetz has an agenda and wants to be someone in the worst way. Chaffetz sees this as his opportunity to make his bones in the House and pave the way for a wider, higher profile political career. He's already let it be known he is willing to challenge Paul Ryan for House Speaker.

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah Jason Chaffetz, the Utah congressman wrapping up his first term atop the powerful House Oversight Committee, unendorsed Donald Trump weeks ago. That freed him up to prepare for something else: spending years, come January, probing the record of a President Hillary Clinton.
Its a target-rich environment, the Republican said in an interview in Salt Lake Citys suburbs. Even before we get to Day One, weve got two years worth of material already lined up. She has four years of history at the State Department, and it aint good.

Something tells me,this was a set-up with certain Rethugs in on the writing of the Letter and the timing of it's release. Interesting.

(20,998 posts)...I was born and raised in the Church, yes, that church. We parted company MANY years ago, but I am very familiar with the Utah Theocracy and their uber-conservative ideals. I grew up in Southeast Arizona, the other Utah, home of previous Church President Spencer W. Kimball. That said...
A woman rising to the highest position in the land --and a strong, pro-choice woman at that-- is anathema to the Church.
That said, I strongly suspect that Comey has had this "new" information in his hands for AT LEAST SEVERAL WEEKS. I further strongly suspect that the timing of this little nothing --and it will be a nothing when it is all said and done-- was timed to give the GOP some cover and try and save their majority in the House and maybe the Senate.

(34,661 posts)After 12 years living in Utah,and being a active Dem,finally had to pull the pin and move on. And yes,the Church sure as hell does not want a Female President of any sort. Taft Benson pretty much killed the Democratic Party in Utah with his demand that all members be Republican in good standing.

All things considered, in a day or two this entire gambit by Chafitz and Comey very likely could backfire "bigly" and Clinton could come out of this in better shape than she was yesterday.

(20,998 posts)...Jason Chaffetz wants to be someone important in the worst way, and sees harassing and investigating Clinton as his path to greatness. Jason Chaffetz is a little man with very big intentions.
And yes, I agree, this could backfire right in Chaffetz's face. And I hope he gets a face full.
