The Germans tried to warn us about this Existential Threat in January.

Let's hope that's actually the case. Those who were old enough to vote and watch the rise of fascism and see what all the inspiring strong-man's promises really meant are almost all gone now.

But the ones who went through it( the 3rd Reich) raised their children ( my generation) to detect fascism in an early stage!!!!! I ( German- American, born 1951 in Germany ) said from the beginning that Donald Trump is a fascist, a very dangerous one.....

and reject fascism, Elf, as opposed to the ones who get swept up in it. Very few knowingly embrace it--they swallow their leaders' lies and follow them righteously down that road. As we see.

Like the U.S. and many other countries, though, Germany's also once again having dangerous populist agitation. It's a real threat to democracies everywhere it gets out of hand for whatever reason. A large majority of Americans don't like Trump but have brought him this far and could still conceivably elect him anyway.

Btw, although it's not discussed as a specific factor in popular media, I've been wondering how much climate change is contributing to this worldwide agitation. Populist types really, really, really do not handle uncertainty and insecurity well.

And as for real effects causing real problems now, we know that climate change and fresh water disappearances have a great deal to do with the wars and other destabilizations that have created over 65 million refugees around the planet, with far more to come. As this continues, there will be more and larger angry, destructive movements in many nations.

Also btw, 3 of my 4 grandparents were immigrants from Germany, just over 100 years ago now.
