2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumFLORIDA: Yesterday was largest turnout of black voters so far (55k);
585,000 AA voters have cast votes so far in Florida, up 28% compared to same point in '12
What was that about Black voters not turning out......utter bullcrap.
Latinos up massively, AA's up 30%, this is gonna be a slaughter by the looks of it if Hillary can take a good %age of white voters.

(297,275 posts)Many pubic polls have "likely voter screens" that screen off far more voters in various demographics than common sense and history would say they should.
Rather than correcting their screens or weighting them, they go with what they've got. There is some rationality behind that decision. But they risk the possibility of being radically wrong about the composition of the actual electorate.
You hardly ever hear the media discussing this fact. They are so focused on the bottom line numbers, especially when they feed into a convenient narrative about the state of the "horse race,' that they wouldn't think of doing so.
The horse race sells. It drives impressions. It ups anxiety and interest. And we know what especially broadcast and cable news is all about. The almighty dollar.

(10,500 posts)was down from 2012.
I think Ohio was won until Comey and Chaffetz pulled their little stunt.
I still think we will win Florida, as well as North Carolina.

However, then people like Rachel and Lawrence O'Donnell said that now that early polling places are opening up in NC, that 'gap' is closing fast in NC.

(3,163 posts)This is in comparison to 2012 at 67%. 26% of the Latino voters are first time voters compared to 13% of white and black voters.

(459 posts)Black people are becoming galvanized by stunts like the FBI has tried to pull and wikileaks and Russian involvement. I listened to Bill Maher's stand up routine last night and what he said about the republicans always pulling Hillary over and then having to admit they got nothing and having to let her go, that really is what this seems like and that resonates with us. This is a witch hunt and wild goose chase and it has got to stop.
Trump's rhetoric about how he would treat minorities if elected and how "certain areas" need to be watched on election day also infuriates us. Maybe the enthusiasm isn't the same as it was for President Obama, but I know Hillary will be a great president for all people and continue to build on his legacy. Trump wants to take us back and we have no time for that. America is already great and Hillary will make it even greater with our help.

(26,060 posts)that the media is only talking about the black vote? How it's down for Hillary versus 2012 for Pres Obama? NOTHING about the massive turnout for the Hispanic vote. NOTHING.

(6,858 posts)The early Latino vote in Florida is up by at least 25%.
The early AA vote in Florida is up by almost 30%.
Both demographics, Hillary has a 35 to 60 point lead over orange face.
An exit poll of early voters shows that Hillary got about 28% of GOP voters.
The early vote in Florida is higher than in 2012.
But, because a few polls show a close race in Florida, that means Hillary is in trouble according to the M$M?
Let me get my hip waders on, because I smell a lot of bullshit from the M$M.

(81,298 posts)I too am so frustrated by this. And I used to do that for a living! I'm freakin' ASHAMED!
Desperately seeking bigger ratings, is all they're in it for, these days. They just want the fucking horse-race. Facts are mere inconveniences and get in the way. Facts are hard work, and many of these kiddies on the air now just want to get their makeup and their lighting and their seat on the panel so they can do their blah-blah-blah. NOBODY's interested in doing the drudgery and time-consuming, painstaking scut work that people like David Fahrenthold at the Washington Post is doing. Or like Woodward and Bernstein did. Or like Kurt Eichenwald is doing at Newsweek - slow digging. Phone calls, internet searches, scouring for sources, and more slow painstaking digging.
I can't even watch Steve Kornacki anymore. His frantic, breathless let's-count-the-electoral-votes maps make me crazy! Sure wish he would switch to decaf...
I was blessed with low blood pressure. I want to keep it that way! I've actually shifted over to watching the Weather Channel at the moment!

(7,403 posts)Akin to an exit poll, and found an unusually large percentage of Republicans voted Clinton rather than Trump, especially with Cubans splitting their ballots. The defections on the Democratic side were much smaller, according to this report. How reliable is it? We will know next Tuesday.
