A conservative group in California is planning to dispatch more than 60 volunteers throughout Riverside County polling stations on Nov. 8 in search of election violations a tactic that Democrats fear is an act of intimidation itself.
A dozen of those volunteers, all local, met Tuesday at a private home in Palm Springs, where for three hours they reviewed the dos and donts of election law whats expected not only of voters and self-appointed poll observers like them, but of election officials who are paid to ensure the process runs smoothly and faithfully.
Several volunteers said they would pay special attention to polling stations in areas that are overwhelmingly Democrat. Ruth Weiss, the Election Integrity Projects San Diego County coordinator who led Tuesdays discussion, promised to send the group a list of vulnerable places, such as campuses and senior care facilities, where she believes violations are more likely to occur.
"Were there to make sure the laws protecting against fraud are followed, she said, citing a desire to protect people from union "bullying."
