? for DUers currently outside the US. How are the locals reacting to our election?

DUers living, working, traveling outside the US: how are the people in your current location reacting to our election?

Are they fascinated? Horrified? Worried? Excited? Not interested?

Just curious how the rest of the world views our election as there is no bigger event affecting the entire world than our national elections.

Who are all extremely left-wing is that Trump is a total dickhead and extremely dangerous. We had a gab about this when we got together on Melbourne Cup day; the consensus is that we love the fact that we have compulsory voting. It's viewed as a civic duty and most people are happy to accept that it's just something we are required to do. It also stops voter intimidation, the need to GOTV and disenfranchisement of minorities and the vulnerable.

Something we all find puzzling is that the (your) parties have no control over who their nominee is. Comparitively few people are actually signed up, card carrying members of the major parties here and there is no need to register for either of them. However, there is a pretty stringent vetting process carried out at party branch level before anyone is given party endorsement.
