Newt Gingrich told David Gregory on Sundays Meet The Press the Republican party of today is incapable of competing with a 2016 presidential run by Hillary Clinton.
Gingrich thinks every Republican should be focused on 2016 because of the severity of their defeat in 2012. Gingrich said that if Clinton were to run in four years, supported by Bill Clinton and presumably a still relatively popular President Barack Obama, trying to win that will be, truly, the Super Bowl.
Referring to the comments about the 47% made by Mitt Romney, Gingrich called it an absurdity. He didnt, however, fault Romney entirely for the GOP loss this year. Gingrich told Gregory,

(56,829 posts)are all going to be viable candidates on the national stage. The media like Rubio and Christie, and W will be a long forgotten memory by 2016. If W could be "elected" in 2000 despite his father's record, I don't see why Jeb isn't almost a shoe-in for the nomination by the end of 2013. He's already got the reputation as the "smart" Bush (low bar to clear, I know)

(4,551 posts)Newt Gingrich isn't Dick Morris. This isn't a case where what the person says always turns out to be the opposite.
Unlike with Dick Morris who never had the real polls or math on his side, the polling and evidence so far backs up the argument that Hillary Clinton would be formidable in 2016.

I'm sure we can put 2 billion dollars to better use next time (for those who may misread that, for the first clause, serious about the second).
As for his comments about rMoney and the party, he's the proverbial broken clock...

depends on what President Obama does with his pledges. If he helps the Republicans destroy Social Programs, people want for get it. It will put more people in poverty. It also depends on his Foreign Policy decisions also, as well as this marijuana issue. People are not sheep. They put him in office for a purpose. Those people that depend on those programs will abandon the Democrat Party, including Hillary Clinton, because they will be no different than the Republicans. They certainly want get my vote, ever again. It doesn't mean I would vote for a Republican either. I'll just declare Independent. We vote for Policies and not popularity contests.

(3,335 posts)right wing smear job about Hillary that they called a movie, off the shelf, dust it off, and run it again to try and discredit Hillary in 2016. We can't get complacent or let our guard down. We still have a least 30 states out there with GOP governors, who will stop at nothing to steal back the White House. Governor Snyder of Michigan who just snuck through that anti union legislature through both houses of a Republican State congress during a lame duck session while no one was looking, comes to mind.
