We got to figure this out, said Cedric Fleming, one of the barbers. We got a gangster in the chair now, he said, referring to President-elect Donald J. Trump.
They admitted that they could not complain too much: Only two of them had voted. But there were no regrets.
I dont feel bad, Mr. Fleming said, trimming a mustache. Milwaukee is tired. Both of them were terrible. They never do anything for us anyway.....

(8,090 posts)Helps explains low turnout. So many parts of the country could be substituted for "Milwaukee." I hope Democratic Party officials are listening.

(5,648 posts)against Trump. No we aren't listening. If your guy couldn't even win the nomination, how would you expect him to do better in the general election? And before you answer that understand that while good ole Bernie did is best to discredit Hillary, she never went after him personally in anything close to the same manner. Trump would have torn Bernie into little pieces.

(5,648 posts)Had you bothered to open the link (and I know you didn't bother to read it) you would have found a well reasoned analysis of why Hillary lost the election.
Do you know how lame it is to simply respond to that kind of post with a simple "disagree" with no facts, no reasoning to support your statement. It your post wasn't so sad it would be laughable.

(8,090 posts)60+ votes that have gone to Democrats since:
1988 (Wisconsin)
1992 (Michigan and Pennsylvania)
She lost Ohio, which Obama won twice.
Her campaign was warned.
She lost Arkansas, which her husband won twice in an otherwise sea of red.
She lost Florida, which Obama won twice.
She lost Iowa, which Obama won twice.
She also lost North Carolina, in spite of A LOT of time and effort. Obama won it once, but the state hated Obamacare so Romney won it next.
It wasn't Comey, the Russians, white privilege, the media, or the bogeyman under your bed. "It's the economy, stupid."

(3,829 posts)Hillary and Trump were always close, but the Democrats chose her anyways for some reason.
That looks like malpractice to me..

(5,648 posts)The polling never took into consideration that Hillary handled Sanders with kid gloves because he didn't want to anger his followers. Of course, Sanders, with nothing to lose, attacked Hilary in every way possible. The Republicans went after Hillary during the primary season, but not Sanders because they wanted him to win. Lucky for Sanders he was never vetted.
But don't worry, the Republic Swift Boat machine had a opposition research book several inches thick, on the off chance he would bested Hillary in the primaries. Trump would called him "Traitor Sanders" and they would have torn him into little pieces -
And by the way, It never appeared that Hillary would lose the primary, but as you will recall, if Hillary had seriously started to lose ground, Michael Bloomberg was ready to jump into the race as and independent. Bloomberg might of won, but if not he would have split the Democratic vote and Trump would have won. In a three way race, Sanders wouldn't have stood a chance.

(3,829 posts)But Bernie was always the far stronger candidate. He beat all candidates in a head to head competition in a general election. Running on major issues that affect the majority of Americans is far more appealing than running on "stronger together" while hobnobbing with Henry Kissinger.
SMC22307
(8,090 posts)his personal Wall Street bailout, his lay-offs, his giving contractors the shaft. He would have portrayed him as the business failure he is. And all of that would have resonated with the Rust Belt voters Hillary lost.
Trump railed against Hillary and her support of the Iraq War. He wouldn't have been able to use that ammo against Bernie.
Bernie warned against focusing so much on personality issues, and, yet again, he was right. Too many people are being crushed by housing costs, college tuition, healthcare costs, no retirement savings, etc. They're not gonna care about what lewd comments come spewing out of the foul-mouthed man-child's mouth, if they think he might *right* things economically.

(6,974 posts)Hillary was performing well against tRump even LATE into the campaign. But, the interference from our OWN FBI, GOP Governors, on top of the voter disenfranchisement and voter suppression going on, this election was a rigged mess. I didn't even mention the Russians who more than likely are guilty of hacking our elections. And while I KNOW that either Hillary or Bernie would have mauled tRump in a FAIR General Election, there was nothing fair or just about the 2016 GE, which means that Bernie would have lost as well.
All of the pollsters didn't get it wrong. But like I say, with the help of our OWN FBI, the Russians et al., well And I know I sound like a broken record when posting here @ DU, but Dems have a lot more to worry about than delegates, and who we ultimately do run in the 2020 GE, because we now have an incoming tRump DOJ in 2017, and with a full year to monkey around with doubling-down on voting rights suppression etc, plus they may even secretly encourage the Russians again to hack into our elections. Heck, the Russians may involve themselves because the CAN. Who'd stop the them (The folks he owes big $$$ to and who he loves and admires)? The GOP/tRump?

(6,974 posts)Bernie wouldn't have been spared the wrath of Bannon. In fact, it's now emerging that Bannon was going to take a knife to Bernie by turning him not only into a Commie/Socialist/Castro lover, a 25 year DC insider, but also try to turn him into a Pedophile because he voted against outlawing certain types of child porn, because he voted against the Amber alert bill (As if Bannon/tRump care about kids) and because of that essay dealing with sexuality back from 1972 which Bannon was going to turn into a "Bernie" rape Fantasy. I'm pretty sure that tRump would have gone the pedio/rapist/he hates kids blather (Amber Alert) continuously because tRump loves projecting (Ivanka-lust, p***y-grabbing, looking at naked teens in a beauty contest changing clothes, and telling a 10 year old on an escalator he'd be married to her in 10 years).
Then on top of those filthy smears, tRump and Bannon had their buddies the Russians riding shotgun with the hacking into WI, MI, PA and FLA. tRump was in contact with Russia the WHOLE time during the GE and many months before the GE. tRump said that was untrue. It's true.

(5,648 posts)Late in the election cycle the Trump campaign devoted much of their time and effort into suppressing the Democratic vote by making the election such a cesspool that decent people would stay home while the deplorables would eagerly vote for Trump. Based on this article that tactic seems to have worked.
Unfortunately those who stayed home will live to curse the day they made that decision.
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)Nor is it Hillary's fault. Even for those who (and I'll never understand) thought "Screw it, they both suck, they're both the same, so I'm not voting", it was on the individuals who chose not to vote. I'm not laying that at the feet of either candidate.
CajunBlazer
(5,648 posts)Yet the campaign of one candidate stated publicly that their objective was to depress the Democratic vote, and the Democratic vote was depressed.
Sure it was individuals who allowed themselves to be manipulated by the Trump campaign into not voting or throwing away their vote on third party candidates. But it is more than that.
A recent article posted here on DU was about a journalist who spent some time in a barber shop in a black section Milwaukee interviewing the four barbers and their customers. Of the people she interviewed a few had voted for Hillary, one had voted for Trump, and more than a few had not voted at all. Two of four barbers voted - one wrote in the name of Bernie Sanders and the other voted for his mother. All had enthusiastically supported Barack Obama, but many were disillusion with the Democratic Party and even President Obama because their lives had not improved over the last 8 years.
The district where this barbershop is located in Milwaukee has a national reputation for high voter participation in Presidential elections, but it recorded a record low for the district this election cycle. As you will recall, Hillary lost Wisconsin by a razor thin margin. With examples like this you can't tell me that the sleazy Trump campaign and Bush's recession and the Congressional Republicans' refusal to help the President to bring the country back out of recession quicker didn't take their toll.
Sure it is the fault of individuals who didn't bother to vote, but don't tell me that they weren't manipulated.
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)or they can look at the cold, hard facts and make a decision about what will benefit them the most, and in this election, there should have been no question whatsoever about which candidate was not only the best qualified, but also would do the most for marginalized populations in this country.
Even if a voter saw the choice as being one of the lesser of two evils, there was clearly one choice that was in fact the lesser of two evils.

(7,963 posts)If I would have voted, I would have voted for him, said Andre Frierson, 40, a security guard working the evening shift at Jakes. From a business perspective, I loved him.
As for Mrs. Clinton, other countries probably wouldnt have respected us because we had a woman running the country, he said.
How utterly misinformed people are. I keep hearing about Trump's business savvy. How do they not know about all his bankruptcies? It was said 1,000 times.
And the second part about voting for a woman says it all. THAT in a nutshell. Patton Oswald summed up this election best with his tweet:
What I've learned so far tonight: America is WAAAAAAAAY more sexist than it is racist. And it's pretty fucking racist. #ElectionNight
