2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDid Mitt Romney's use of the 47% statement make Romney's campaign succumb to the 99% meme of Occupy?
It showed Romney trying to divide Americas, in a way Americans no longer felt divided.

(11,464 posts)Did you ever wonder why the major core voters of Barack Obama don't whine and waited 10 hours to vote or more?
Because they know how great it is that Obama is president at this time.
and it has nothing to do with anything but.
It was predestined that it was a landslide victory. That the repubs didn't believe it was their problem
the revolution was won peacefully in Nov. 2008. Ratified and affirmed Nov. 2012

(8,244 posts)just using the __% meme reminded people of the 99% slogan and issues.
Also the comment exposed Romney's disgusting class prejudice. That he was making the comment in "secret" to a room full of millionaires made it even more obvious that there is a class war of sorts going on in America. He was bluntly trying to rally rich people for a class-based money grab, and there was no denying it.

(12,121 posts)It turned out that Mr. Buffett, with immense income from dividends and capital gains, paid far, far less as a fraction of his income than the secretaries or the clerks or anyone else in his office. Further, in conversation it came up that Mr. Buffett doesnt use any tax planning at all. He just pays as the Internal Revenue Code requires. How can this be fair? he asked of how little he pays relative to his employees. How can this be right?
Even though I agreed with him, I warned that whenever someone tried to raise the issue, he or she was accused of fomenting class warfare.
Theres class warfare, all right, Mr. Buffett said, but its my class, the rich class, thats making war, and were winning.
