2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhy does there have to be a "left wing vs west wing" fight with the Democrats??
I cannot understand that argument?
Can they both not live together? Can they not both be Democrats?
It seems that they would be much stronger together? Is that impossible to achieve? Is the gap that wide between them?
The debate seems to be about "identity" politics vs "working-class whites" politics? Some seem to assume that "working class whites" are in opposition to "identity" groups? I'm not sure that is true?
A lot of "working class whites" believe in equality for all. They do not believe in discrimination. Of course, many are much more to the "right" than we can tolerate. They can never be as perfect as we.
These are the people that we have to convert, if we are to compete with the new Trump Republicans.

(13,431 posts)I voted for Bernie in the primary. He's a good man with a strong vision. However, he didn't obtain the trust of a majority of Democrats to win. I gladly voted for Hillary in the general and it simply mystifies me why so many of the Busters were willing to let America burn to the ground because their preferred candidate did not win the primary.

(111,110 posts)That's a pretty harsh criticism of Bernie's supporters, in my opinion.

(13,431 posts)The Bernie or Bust crowd may chime in with their own opinions and I would love to hear them. They left the party this year so the impetus is on them to decide if they want to rejoin it which in turn will help the rest of us decide who we can reach out to next.

(44,187 posts)The Bernie or Busters believe they are 100% right, and everyone else is wrong/evil.
Bernie supporters are not that way.
I believe that the party needs to move more left, but it would be a huge mistake to remake the party in the image of Bob,s.

(111,110 posts)when Hillary got more votes and the nomination, I supported her strongly. It is now one of the proudest votes I have ever made as a Democrat.

(13,616 posts)when Bernie conceded, he was the first to tell [people to knock it off. If he really wanted to be an asshole, he could have hooked up with Jill Stein, and he did NOT.
