AIPAC et al already trying to torpedo Obama's Secretary of Defense nominee

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/12/13/the-hagel-haters.html

But Republicans aside, Hagel’s real opposition will likely come from the pro-Israel lobby in Washington. While the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) never takes formal positions on nominees, if the group is asked by senators for its view on Hagel, it’s unlikely AIPAC will have a kind word.
A senior pro-Israel advocate in Washington told The Daily Beast on Thursday, “The pro-Israel community will view the nomination of Senator Chuck Hagel in an extremely negative light. His record is unique in its animus towards Israel.”

When Israel becomes the 51st state, then what their supporters care should be relevant to how the US chooses to defend itself, including choice of Secretary of Defense.

Until then, AIPAC et al can have a bowl of salted dicks for the holidays.

Of course, what better way to refute the allegation of a pro-Israel lobby than to have a bunch of Israel supporters try to tell the President that Hagel is insufficiently worshipful of Israel to defend the USA.

It's not our responsibility to make sure that all of our policies are in alignment with Israel. In 1947, the powers that be made a huge mistake in placing the jewish people in a land they left nearly two thousand years ago -- this decision created what we what we now know as the Israeli and Palestinian conflict today. Imagine the World's power that be deciding to put a group of people somewhere in the middle of America and calling it a new country -- that would be ridiculous and would lead to conflicts between the Americans and those people.

As with the Secretary of State, he has not nominated anyone. Nor, has he even mentioned who is his first choice.

party line (or AIPAC line) on Israel an anti-Semite. I don't think they will get away with it, though--he was well-regarded in the Senate, IIRC.
