NRA’s Wayne Lapierre Press Conference–Love Your Children? Then Arm The Schools (VIDEO Commentary)

\
Wayne Lapierre gave his first press conference since the gun massacre. It was a bizarre press conference. Mr. Lapierre came out swinging. Neither he nor his group has accepted any responsibility or causality for the killings in the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. The full text of his speech reads like that of a guilty person deflecting and living in an alternate state of reality.

Immediately after the press conference, former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said on MSNBC about the press conference "It was a missed opportunity”.

Mr. Lapierre made several ill advised points. He claims that violent games and movies are responsible for violent behavior. He went out of his way to point out the game Kindergarten Killers to deflect from the gun issues.

Mr. Lapierre later implies that the President is protected by guns, that Congress is protected by guns, that banks & other thing deemed precious are protected by guns, and as such it is inconceivable that if one loves their children they would not be protected by guns. He then suggested that every school have armed protection.

Video Commentary HERE.

Mr. Lapierre said the following

The NRA is going to bring all of its knowledge, dedication and resources to develop a model National School Shield Emergency Response Program for every school that wants it. From armed security to building design and access control to information technology to student and teacher training, this multi-faceted program will be developed by the very best experts in their fields.

Former Congressman Asa Hutchinson will lead this effort as National Director of the National School Shield Program, with a budget provided by the NRA of whatever scope the task requires. His experience as a U.S. Attorney, Director of the Drug Enforcement Agency and Undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security will give him the knowledge and expertise to hire the most knowledgeable and credentialed experts available anywhere, to get this program up and running from the first day forward.

If we truly cherish our kids more than our money or our celebrities, we must give them the greatest level of protection possible and the security that is only available with a properly trained — armed — good guy.

Powerful. If we cherish our kids more than we cherish our money, give the NRA supported industries your money and they will protect your kids.

The cynic in me believes that Mr. Lapierre’s speech is intended to stoke a subliminal message in the psyche of the American citizenry, to further create armed regions, schools, hospitals, grocery stores, etc., and with that increase the gun business at large. In effect, use this tragedy to plant messages that if it pays off, will payoff big with a frightened population looking for protection at all financial or social cost.

The NRA needs to be expelled from this country like any other terrorist organization.

Lapierre shifted the blame for school & mass shootings onto several other issues in his vain tapdance around embracing gun control. For a fleeting day there I thought nra would support reducing ammo clips to 15 (as a compromise to 10), but no, as usual, no compromise until they're faced with imminent defeat, then they do their best to compromise as much as possible to blunt the guncontrol measure.
Jack Anderson circa 1996 wrote 'Inside the NRA, Armed & Dangerous' (on amazon or library). I could write a sequel, 'Armed & More Dangerous', but I don't really want to get inside the nra.

NRA's love for money goes back a long way; late 1900's they put out a fund raising letter. I work from memory so don't quote, but on the fundraiser letter from the nra, there was 'official' looking wording if you don't contribute to this request, you could face penalties from the govt --- well that's it paraphrased, I remember that it subtly implied that you would face a govt fine if you didn't send the NATIONAL rifle association, money. They were fined by the govt I believe, for using US mail to try to coerce money out of people.

Charlton Heston, past president of the NRA, believe it or not, vocally supported the GUN CONTROL ACT of 1968. He read it on either radio or tv, & some say he helped write it. Imagine how much of a turnaround charlton underwent to end up president of nra.

First NRA president, Harlon Carter (charlton's name sorta jumbled) shot & killed a mexican or spanish american when they got into an encounter; Harlon Carter was charged with murder, but got off on a technicality pleading self defense (iirc, the mexican might've flashed a knife on him but didn't approach, & carter was supposed to back away with superior firepower, but I believe he just pulled his gun & shot, google if interested, egberto).

Tanya Metaksa, nra upper mgmt, so proud of the last 4 letters in her name which stand for 'AK semi automatic', & board member ted nugent a mental midget with a gun & a foul mouth.

Bd member bob barr (sp?) shot out a window accidentally, Neal Knox (sp?) thought blacks in LA should be allowed to shoot each other; .. & maybe not a nra member, but dick cheney went hunting & came back with a lawyer skin rug.
