Leave Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid out.

Let the GOP propose publicily what their cuts to these programs are. If the GOP will not make a deal unless these programs have cuts the GOP needs to say this loud and clear then pay the political price for their beliefs. President Obama needs to stop providing political cover for the GOP and their positions. It hurts the Democratic party in the long run, ie 2014.

If Social Security cuts in any form is not a GOP request, and the GOP does not request it publicly, then President Obama should not even entertain the idea. Period.

1. It is really this simple

Boehner is speaker. Boehner will not admit that the only thing he can pass and hope to make into law is a plan that kicks the T-party to the curb and replaces them with Dem votes. The math is there, he can get the votes of most dems and enough of the Rs with a plan that does not touch SS or medicare and allows the high end tax cuts to expire. It will be even easier in early Jan when the group of Dems is larger and the T-party caucus smaller.

Will he suck it up and admit he needs a large share of the Dems to govern? PBHO keeps putting the question to him in various ways, and so far the answer has been no, he will not admit it. If he does not admit this, he cannot govern, and things will keep stalling.

PBHO can put anything "on the table", it does not matter as long as tax increases for the rich are part of the package. This has been proven over and over again, and Boehner will not accept the lesson. His own caucus will throw him under the bus over and over again. He has gotten the enforcers out and they are jacking people up, kicking them off committees, and lord only knows what else behind the scenes. Still they throw him under the bus.

He will sit and spin until he gets it.

After January and the new congress Nancy Pelosi will need about 1 dozen republicans to control the floor for a vote. My dollar says she will find them to "cut taxes for the middle class" once the Bush* tax cuts expire. Boehner suffers far less a defeat because Nancy Pelosi brings it to a vote. The republicans who sign on will be ready to retire, or in very safe seats. She only needs a dozen.

Boehner suffers a little for losing control of the floor, but gets to raise hell and vote against the measure (in an intentionally losing effort to defeat the motion).

Obama’s call for congressional leadership to put spending cuts on the shelf and cut taxes for the 98% is exactly what he has wanted all along. Republicans blew their once chance at a deal, and now it looks like they can kiss any immediate entitlement cuts goodbye. It would surprise no one if Republicans reject what the president put on the table today, but the president is making House Republicans pay a price for their incompetence by cutting his offer.

It looks like Republicans will either have to go off the cliff, or give President Obama everything he wants right now.
