Real reason republicans oppose Hagel (from Maddow show)

It is all about the cuts that need to be made to the Defense Dept's budget.


Steve Clemont, on the Maddow Show said if a Dem defense secretary proposes cuts to the Defense Dept, the Republicans will claim Dems are weak on defense; having a Republican Defense Secretary allows Obama to propose cuts based on a Republican's recommendation.

1. I think the reason is even simpler:

The GOPers oppose him because Obama wants him. They'd oppose any appointment. They'd oppose Jesus Christ (who, admittedly, would be an odd choice for SecDef) if Obama appointed him.
