Jon Stewart Uses Inauguration Coverage To Illustrate Mainstream Media Is Depthless (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart uses snippets from the actual coverage of the Presidential Inauguration to show how depthless the mainstream media has become, some more than others. These are serious times. We have an intransigent Congress that is putting the nation’s credit rating, fiscal soundness, and social safety net at risk, yet coverage seem more intent on giving details that are of no consequence to those listening to the inauguration.

Stewart shows a snippet of how different stations have diametrically opposed narratives on the same image being seen.

MSNBC
Massive crowd here in Washington today

FOX

Much smaller crowds than we saw four years ago.

Then the pundits wonder why Americans are so polarized. The Plutocracy through its media cohorts are ensuring dissention by having stations give different groups different “truths”. The reality is that context does not matter. It is not important whether divisions are political, religious, racial, or otherwise, as long as there is division. Dividing and conquering is always effective. In the case of our American experiment, dividing keeps most Americans’ eyes off of those that are really causing the effecting of policies that pilfer the middle class.

Stewart also shows the shallowness of the coverage.

CNN

Just a note on what you saw the first lady wearing. We are told it is a Tom Brown coated dress.. and it was custom made for a few thousand dollars…That Tom Brown coat is anywhere upward of three thousand dollars…I think the real tragedy of today is that she has to give that outfit away to the national archive.

When it comes to the substance of the speech, Stewart shows how a listener of Fox learned to interpret Stonewall as a gay bar brawl while MSNBC makes it a seminal moment for gay rights. He shows how one station views the speech as a progressive vision, while the other as the most divisive speech in living memory.

None of this is by accident. Americans are being played. A few months ago Move To Amend in Salt Lake City put on “must see” skit that they ran for several weeks called “Bread & Circus”. The story is that old empires used to control their populous by giving them just enough bread to survive and then sedate them with entertainment. We now have the mainstream media, reality TV shows, silly senseless talk shows, and all other types of demeaning entertainment intent on taking our eyes off of what really ails the country. Jon Stewart in his own way illustrates this in a funny and entertaining form.

Mainstream is the crowd that Obama marveled at, during the Inauguration.

The media is not mainstream.

inaugural balls (MSNBC only went there occasionally) (FOX - have no idea) so to show that clip against MSNBC and FOX inauguration clips is not a good comparison. Besides, CNN did have wonderful inauguration weekend coverage.
Best one was after FOX's "much smaller crowds than we saw four years ago" Stewart shows that even Obama's 2nd inauguration crowd was larger than the total of the 2 W inaugurations. BOOM!!!!
