Are Republicans REALLY interested in Immigration Reform?

My position (unless facts prove otherwise) is currently no and has actually been quite tenuous from the start.

My theory, based on the recent blow-up by Rubio over the fact that the WH came up with its own PROPOSAL, is thus: Republicans pretend to be for immigration reform initially- to help them court hispanic voters- but simultaneously begin throwing barriers and obstructions to reform (100% border security for 5 years?) until finally they find some excuse or, as I like to call it, "escape hatch" to bail on the whole initiative so as to keep their "base" in line and blame President Obama for its failure so as to help drive a wedge between Democrats and hispanic voters in time for 2014 midterms (and, later, the 2016 Presidential Election).

Remember, their strategy for 2012 wasn't really so much based on winning over a bunch of Women, African-Americans, Hispanics, etc. to Romney but rather trying to peel off their support of President Obama and the Democrats ("if they're not going to vote for us, we need to make sure that they won't for Democrats either&quot . It didn't really work then because most thinking people weren't that easily fooled and knew who was to blame for the economy and lack of progress on issues like immigration reform but the Republicans are nothing if not consistent in making the same strategic and tactical mistakes over and over again.

This is my theory and I'm sticking to it until or unless something else happens. Sorry if this sounds incredibly cynical but this the modern-day Republican Party we're talking about.

1. republicans are only interested in blocking the poorest of mexicans, what about the canadian border?

The poorest being the families that work the factories along the border just inside mexico. Their pay is 7.00 a DAY. Most of those factories make goods for selling to Americans.

I think the mexican border is a huge money maker for for profit contractors to grab a lot of our Federal funds and stuff that money into their pockets. Even the prisons that hold the mexicans they can grab while they wait to be deported are private for profit prisons.

There is a dragnet and road blocks in the USA about 50 miles from the border. That's where even if some undocumented person is trying to 'self deport' and go home, they get caught and placed in prison.


One can fly to Canada from mexico, Cuba to and from mexico and canada. Even undocumented people from Russia can boat over to our west coast and canada, with ease.

The border Indian reservations do not want our Federal or private contracter border police on their land. They are their own Nation. That is a huge part of the mexico-usa border that is not included in the republican private profits pogrom.


Republicans have held the Dream act hostage for years now. President Obama said he would sign the dream act.

Republicans don't care about immigrants at all unless they can make private personal profits off them, and grab billions of our Federal and State taxpayer money.

2. Of course not. Keep their underlying motives mind.

They are obsessed with white men keeping power, they have zero regard for anyone who is not wealthy. It's all about power and wealth, for white folks.

In about 20 years, the percentage of Hispanics in the US population will increase significantly, and if Republicans don't do something and at least pretend they care, they will become obsolete. A bitter pill to swallow for them.

They they think if they can please a certain voting block they may be able to peel enough votes away from the Dems in later elections. The base (extreme teabaggers) do not and they are grumbling about it and they have a history of kicking out people that don't fall in line too. That's why we have certain GOP politicians bouncing around like a YO-YO.
