GOP Rep Offers Amendment Prohibiting Obama From Playing Golf Until White House Tours Resume
On Tuesday, the Obama administration announced that the across-the-board sequester cuts will result in the cancellation of all White House tours indefinitely. This no doubt upset ticket holders, but it also seems to have struck a nerve with Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), who introduced an amendment to a continuing resolution on the federal budget that seeks to block President Obama from using federal funds for any future golf outings until the tours are reinstated:
None of the funds made available by a division of this Act may be used to transport the President to or from a golf course until public tours of the White House resume.
Gohmerts continuation of his partys infatuation with Obamas golf game distracts from the bigger picture: namely, that the Republican Party has thus far refused to compromise with the White House or congressional Democrats to delay or bypass entirely the sequestration, which would, among other things, fund White House tours.
And there was a suspicious lack of golf-related legislation from Gohmert when his own party took the opportunity to laud their own victory in the taxpayer-funded Congressional Challenge Cup.

It is looking more and more like Congress is one giant kindergarten class. (I apologize to my kindergarten great-grandchildren for the comparison, as they actually behave like 8th graders compared to this group.)
If Boehner can't control them, then those with seniority (and some semblance of common sense) should step in and demand they quit horsing around and get back to work on serious issues.

(855 posts)Congress critters need to be charged to introduce legislation. Maybe give them "Congress Bucks" at the beginning of each new session. Then every time they introduce new legislation, they have to pay some of those back. When you don't have enough anymore, you're done. No new legislation from you until next term or you get re-elected. That should cut down on some of this stupidity.
I guess other rules should include that you're not allowed to pool resources so the doorstops can't aid the crazys. Also, the total amount should be pretty small. If you want to spend your credit to rename a post office (assuming there will be post offices in the future) then you are somewhat limited in what you can do after that. If you want to introduce legislation on how the POTUS should spend his leisure time, that also limits you in the future. On the other hand, if you have something worthwhile to offer, that would be worth it.
When something becomes rare, it becomes valuable; not to be wasted. Right now they can introduce stupid legislation right and left with no consequence. If that was somehow limited and people see their own congress critters wasting their influence on this sort of lunacy, maybe they would think harder about their next vote.

e: Obama should invite Gohmert to come play a few rounds with him--just to poke the hornet's nest a little.
