Congress Introduces Bill To Make Israel ‘Major Strategic Ally’

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- A Republican and a Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives introduced legislation that would make Israel a "major strategic ally," a unique designation.

The bill, introduced Monday by Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) and Ted Deutch (D-Fla.), was timed for the annual American Israel Public Affairs Committee policy conference, and 13,000 activists are expected to lobby on Tuesday for the measure and Iran-related bills.

The "major strategic ally" bill codifies a number of existing facets of the U.S.-Israel relationship, including annual defense assistance and cooperation on missile defense, energy research and cyber security.

It also calls for Israel to join the program that waives pre-arranged visas for select nationals entering the United States.

And I'm as pro-Israel as it gets.

Oh. I just saw it was Florida twits putting it out there. Election credentials, not meant to be taken seriously.

But I'd up the medication for state department officials till it's over.

2. Can I ask a question?

We do a lot for Israel like give them weapons, aid, defense technology etc.

We also protect them at the UN.

What do they do for us exactly? Isn't an alliance a two way street?

I'm kind of scratching my head over here.

3. Post the cold-war, I myself would like someone justify the 'strategic ally' claim. Perhaps it is

the congressional lick-spittle that enjoys the kickback on the $3.5 billion aid dug right out of the US taxpayer pocketbook.

Strategy ally in present day? No...the apartheid state of today is a liability that the honest few can't justify.
