With primary race all but lost, Gingrich keeps chasing votes

Republicans continued their Delaware-staged political drama on Wednesday, with a defiant Newt Gingrich refusing to cede the presidential primary race to front-runner Mitt Romney.

Gingrich campaigned for conservative votes in New Castle and Kent counties on Thursday, meeting with voters at the Newark senior center and delivering an evening speech on Social Security at Wesley College in Dover.

It was in Delaware on Tuesday that Romney went public as the de facto GOP presidential nominee just hours after rival Rick Santorum dropped out of the race. Romney roused a large crowd of supporters on a factory floor on Wilmington's East Side.

Nevertheless, Gingrich isn't calling it quits.

"My experience with history is it's not over until it's over," Gingrich said Wednesday morning in Newark. "Currently, it's very clear Romney does not today have a majority of delegates. This race has been so volatile I have no idea how it's going to shake out.""I don't have anybody running up to me out here in everyday America saying, 'Please drop out,' " Gingrich added. "Every state I go to people are glad I'm still in the race."

Gingrich, who also met with Wilmington Catholic Bishop Francis Malooly on his latest swing through Delaware, said he has been "swapping voicemails" with Santorum, who cancelled an afternoon rally scheduled for the Camden-Wyoming Fire Hall.

Newt is looking like such a tragic figure.

If it weren't so sad it would be funny.
